LOOKING AHEAD:
The top two teams in the Atlantic Division meet Friday in Providence (7:05 ET) as the Bruins host the first-place Wolf Pack. Providence has scored just nine goals in going 2-4-1 against the Pack this season, but posted a 1-0 victory behind Tim Thomas in their last meeting on Jan. 21. Both clubs are among the best in the AHL when playing with a lead: the B's are 18-2-6-0 when scoring first this season, Hartford is 20-2-5-0. Wolf Pack captain Ken Gernander is scoreless in his last seven games and remains stuck on 599 career AHL points entering the weekend.
Chicago visits Grand Rapids on Friday (7:30 ET, 6:30 CT) in another first-meets-second showdown. The West Division rivals are meeting for the seventh time in 2003-04, with the Griffins winning four of the first six and each of the first two at Van Andel Arena. Marc Lamothe is 4-0-3 in his last seven starts on home ice for Grand Rapids, and is coming off his franchise-record 10th career shutout as a Griffin, a 3-0 win over Cincinnati on Wednesday. Wolves goaltender Frederic Cassivi has played 299 career AHL matches through Thursday, with a record of 125-119-30. Chicago has won four in a row on the road; its last loss in enemy territory was a 4-3 overtime defeat at Grand Rapids on Jan. 16.
An emotional weekend at the Broome County Arena begins Friday (7:05 ET) when former fan favorite Dennis Bonvie returns to Binghamton as a member of the Hershey Bears. Bonvie already has three assists as he plays his sixth game with the Bears, and his fifth against one of his former clubs. Then Saturday, the Senators host Philadelphia (7:05 ET) for the second time since the teams' infamous tilt at the Wachovia Spectrum on Dec. 28. Both games have major implications for the Sens, who are chasing both the Bears and Phantoms in the East Division playoff race.
The 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic takes place on Sunday and Monday in Grand Rapids, with some of the best young players in hockey showcasing their talent. The event will be televised to more than 108 million households over 22 regional networks in the U.S. and Canada; visit theahl.com for a complete list of air times.
