Providence Bruins News Release

Former Providence Bruins right wing Glen Murray was named today to the Eastern Conference Team for this weekend's NHL All-Star Game. Murray, who played for Providence in the inaugural 1992-93 season, also suited up for the 2002-03 NHL All-Star Game. He joins teammates Joe Thornton and former P-Bruins defenseman Nick Boynton. In addition, former P-Bruins goaltender Andrew Raycroft and rookie center Patrice Bergeron will play in the YoungStars Game.

Murray, a 31-year-old native of Halifax, Nova Scotia, leads the Bruins with 23 goals and ranks second with 44 points in 56 games. He was named the NHL's Offensive Player of the Week for the period ending February 1, after scoring seven goals in four games, including three consecutive game-winners. Murray currently has a six-game goal streak (nine goals), and an eight-game point streak (10-2-12).

The 6'2", 221-pound Murray was Boston's first pick, 18th overall, in the 1991 NHL Entry Draft. He reached the NHL with Boston full-time in 1993-94, and played two seasons there before being traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of a deal for Kevin Stevens and Shawn McEachern on August 2, 1995. He was later traded to the Los Angeles Kings on March 18, 1997, before being reacquired by Boston with former P-Bruin Jozef Stumpel in exchange for Jason Allison and Mikko Eloranta on October 24, 2001. Murray has led the Bruins in goals in each of the last two seasons (41 and 44, respectively), and has 259-248-507 totals in 798 career NHL games.
