Grizzlies Lose A Pair Of Defenseman

WEST VALLEY CITY, UTAH (Apr. 7, 2003) - The Utah Grizzlies announced today that defenseman John Erskine has been re-called by the Dallas Stars and that defenseman Cory Murphy has been released from his contract.

Erskine, 22, finished the regular season for with the Grizzlies yesterday in Milwaukee. He had 10 points (2-8=10) and 274 penalty minutes on the season for Utah. The Stars second round pick in 1999 has played in 16 games with Dallas this season scoring his first two National Hockey League goals.

The Stars open their first round Stanley Cup Playoff series versus Edmonton on Wednesday night in Dallas.

Murphy, 26, was released from his contract yesterday after the Grizzlies regular season finale. Murphy played in Utah's game Saturday night in Milwaukee and did not record a point. He will return to Fresno and play for the Falcons in their first round West Coast Hockey League playoff series beginning this week.

The Grizzlies begin their Calder Cup playoff run on Thursday night when they open a best-of-three qualifying round series in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton against the Penguins.
