Fort Wayne, IN --- The Komets defeated the Beacons in Port Huron Sunday night to sweep the Beacons from the first round best-of-5 UHL playoff series 3 games to none and advance to the Eastern Conference Finals. After posting a season record of 3-5-1 against Port Huron, the Komets eliminated the Beacons from the post season in 3 straight games 4-2, 2-1 and 6-2.
Next, the Komets will face the Elmira Jackals in a best-of-7 2nd round Eastern Conference Finals series starting this Friday, April 11 at 7:35pm in Fort Wayne. Elmira advanced to the 2nd round after eliminating Adirondack 3 games to 1. Game 2 of the Komets-Jackals series will be played in Fort Wayne Sunday, April 13 at 5:05pm. The series switches to Elmira for games 3, 4 and 5 if necessary. If games 6 and 7 are necessary, they will be played in Fort Wayne. The complete 2nd round Fort Wayne vs. Elmira series schedule is listed below.

Everything's Jake.....Komet defenseman Jake Ortmeyer has been named to the 2002-03 UHL All Rookie Team, the UHL announced today. Ortmeyer, 25, registered 6 goals and 24 points in 71 games with the Komets during his rookie season. The Omaha, Nebraska native also topped the Komets and UHL rookies (t) with a +27 rating. League head coaches, general managers and members of the media selected the team. A player qualifies as a rookie if he has participated in 2 or fewer regular season games in any pro league prior to the start of the 2002-03 UHL season.
