Idaho Steelheads News Release

BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads announced today, along with Idaho's Governor Dirk Kempthorne, and Major General Jack Kane that the team will wear Idaho National Guard insignias on their jerseys during the West Coast Hockey League playoffs in support of the troops.

"I commend the Idaho Steelheads for recognizing the men and women of the Idaho National Guard serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom," Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne said. "This special recognition honors not only the troops on deployment and serving on the homefront, but the families and employers of the brave Idahoans who are defending this nation's freedom. We are proud of every member of the Idaho National Guard and proud of the Steelheads organization for acknowledging the sacrifices made by our military. As Commander-in-Chief of the Idaho National Guard, I'm sure all Idahoans join me in honoring these two great uniforms united in support of freedom and democracy."

The Idaho Adjutant General, Major General Jack Kane said, "We are honored to have Idaho's hockey team, the Steelheads, wearing the insignia of the Idaho Air National Guard and Idaho Army National Guard during their upcoming playoffs. It means a lot to the 4,400 men and women who serve Idaho during national and state emergencies, including the more than 300 now serving in the Persian Gulf region in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. We wish the Steelheads the best of luck in the playoffs."

The Idaho Steelheads will wear crests from the Idaho Air National Guard and the Idaho National Guard. Units represented include:

* The Idaho Air National Guard and their flying squadrons, the 190th Fighter Squadron (many of whom are now engaged in combat operations over Iraq) and the 189th Airlift Squadron.

* The 1-183 (first of the 183rd) Aviation Battalion, Idaho Army National Guard.

* The 116th Cavalry Brigade, Idaho Army National Guard.

* The Idaho State Area Command, Idaho Army National Guard.
