ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – After last weekend's back-to-back battles between the intrastate rivals, the Northeast Division Champion Boardwalk Bullies were well-aware of the task ahead.

Wednesday the Bullies beat the Trenton Titans by a final of 4-3 in Game One of the Northeast Division Semifinals of the 2003 Kelly Cup Playoffs, and did so in come-from-behind fashion.

Titans' Tyler Beechey scored two goals in the first period to put the Titans up 2-0 on a jittery Atlantic City club at the end of the first period. But Shawn Maltby deflected a pass from Jim Henkel to put the Bullies on the board in the second.

Paul Spadafora tied the game late in the middle frame on a short-handed tally, assisted by Ryan Mougenel and blueliner Steve Cheredaryk.

Providence Bruins property Peter Metcalf netted a power-play goal eight minutes, 54 seconds into the third period and J.F. Caudron shelfed the game winner five minutes, 42 seconds later.

Mougenel and Henkel each finished the game with two assists. Matt Yeats rebounded from a tough first period to play a spectacular second stanza and stopped 20 Trenton shots in his first professional career playoff victory.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. – The Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies shut out its arch-nemesis the Trenton Titans by a final of 4-0 Friday night and now lead the Northeast Division Semifinals series two games to none.

Paul Spadafora led the Bullies with three points (1G, 2A), including a five-on-three power-play tally. Matt Yeats turned aside all 22 Titans shots, and J.F. Caudron scored the game-winning goal and added an assist.

Steve Cheredaryk and Spadafora each finished the game with a plus-3. Shawn Maltby and Jade Galbraith accounted for the other Bullies goals.

BULLIES BITES

The No. 1 seed in the Northeast Division is currently leading its best-of-five semifinals series, two games to none, against the Trenton Titans...The forward line of Paul Spadafora, Ryan Mougenel, and Shawn Maltby has played exceptionally well, leading the team with a combined nine points (4G, 5A) and a plus-10...Spadafora leads the team in playoff scoring with four points (2G, 2A), including a short-handed tally...Bullies' MVP J.F. Caudron has accounted for both game-winning goals in the Bullies-Titans series thus far...Spadafora and Mougenel are tied for the team-lead in plus-minus, each is a plus-4.

PHANTOMS LOSE, BULLIES GAIN

Today the Bullies welcome back blueliner Kirk Furey who was loaned to the Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League on February 4, 2003. The Phantoms played its last regular season home game yesterday, a 4-3 overtime loss to the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, and for the first time in the team's seven-year existence, will not play in the postseason for a chance to win the Calder Cup. Unfortunate for the Phantoms, but Furey will add a solid defensive presence to the Bullies lineup and should play a factor in the remainder of Atlantic City's Kelly Cup Playoff run. In 31 games with Philadelphia, the 27-year old from Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, registered seven assists and a plus-5, and earned 17 penalty minutes. In 44 games with the Bullies this season, Furey recorded 29 points (4G, 25A) and a plus-17, while racking up 70 penalty minutes. In his rookie season last year, the 5-11, 200-pound defenseman, notched 18 points (5G, 13A) and was a plus-16 in 64 games during the regular season. In 12 playoff games last season, Furey led the Bullies' defense with eight points (2G, 6A) and a plus-4.

BULLIES DON'T HAVE TO ROLL THE DICE WITH YAHTZEE IN NET

In his professional playoff debut on Wednesday, netminder Matt Yeats appeared to have let his nerves get the best of him, but after Titans' Tyler Beechey scored his second goal on the night, just eight minutes, 30 seconds into the first period, the Innisfail, Alberta, native decided enough was enough. Yeats had a phenomenal second period, stopping all eight Trenton shots, while his teammates took care of business at the other end tying the game at two by the end of the middle frame. The former University of Maine goalie saw little action in the third period, but managed to stop three of Trenton's four shots and held on for the win. Friday Yeats stood tall in goal, turning aside all 22 Titans shots and earning his first professional playoff shutout victory in just his second opportunity.
