Help! Colonel Claw'd has been Kidnapped; KGET Support the Troops Rally, Saturday

Upcoming week of April 7th - April 13th:

· The Bakersfield Condors mascot, Colonel Claw'd, has been kidnapped and is being held for ransom, according to sources inside the Condors office. A ransom has been offered in the amount of $10,000. A video was shown on the CondorsVision big screen during the first intermission of Friday's game. It featured two perpetrators wearing stockings over their heads, dressed in San Diego Gulls jerseys, striking the Colonel with hockey sticks and then binding him. Junior Achievement is helping the Condors free the Colonel by selling playoff tickets to raise money. JA volunteers and supporters will be selling tickets to Games 1 and 2 of the Taylor Cup Playoffs for just $5.00 apiece. Half of the proceeds raised will go towards Junior Achievement. To purchase your playoff ticket and help free Colonel Claw'd contact or stop by Junior Achievement of Bakersfield at 1829 Chester Avenue, 328-9373.

· Monday, April 7th - Condors Director of Community Relations, John Ayre will be visiting Greenfield State Preschool today from 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm for Community Reader Day. Greenfield State Preschool is located at 5400 Monitor Street.

· Thursday, April 10th - Join the "Voice of the Condors", Kevin Bartl as he hosts the Condors Coach's Show on KGEO AM 1230 live from the Holiday Inn Select's Q Street Bistro from 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm. Head Coach Paul Kelly and select Condors players will be the guests on the show. The Holiday Inn Select is located at 801 Truxtun, on the corner of Q Street and Truxtun.

· Friday, April 11th - Join the Condors when they host the San Diego Gulls for game 1 of the opening round of the WCHL playoffs. The latest sports giveaway craze hits Bakersfield, as KGET-TV 17, Clear Channel Radio, and Active 20/30 Club sponsor ThunderStix Giveaway Night. Every fan in attendance will receive a pair of Condors ThunderStix. The Condors will also help out the Muscular Dystrophy Association - Bakersfield District, with a "Fill the Skate" event this weekend. MDA representatives will be at the Condors playoff game tonight, collecting donations before the game from 5:15 pm - 7:00 pm in front of the Garden. Fans that make a donation to the "Fill the Skate" fundraiser will receive a voucher for $2.00 off any ticket purchase for Game 2 of the Taylor Cup Playoffs on Saturday, April 12th. Tonight's game can be seen live on Bright House Networks (formally Time Warner Cable) Ch. 21 (Digital 21). Single-game tickets are available through the Centennial Garden Box Office, open 10:00 am - 6:00 pm Monday through Saturday. Tickets may also be purchased by phone through Ticketmaster at 322-2525, online at www.ticketmaster.com or at any Ticketmaster location. Group outings may be purchased by calling, or visiting the Condors office at Centennial Garden. The doors open at 6:00 pm and the puck drops at 7:00 pm.

· Saturday, April 12th - The Muscular Dystrophy Association - Bakersfield District, will be stationed around Bakersfield this afternoon in three locations, asking passers-by to help "Fill the Skate." Volunteers will be at the corner of Rosedale and Coffee, California and Stockdale and Ming and Oak, from 10:00 am - 2:00 pm. Anyone donating to the "Fill the Skate," either on Friday or Saturday will receive a voucher for $2.00 off any ticket purchase for Game 2 of the Taylor Cup Playoffs on Saturday, April 12th.

· Saturday, April 12th - Join the Condors for KGET-TV 17, Clear Channel Radio, and Active 20/30 Club Jersey off our Back Raffle and Auction. The Condors road to the Taylor Cup continues as they host the San Diego Gulls for Game 2 of the opening round of the WCHL playoffs. The Condors Go Army pre-game warm up jerseys will be auctioned off after the game, plus everyone in attendance has a chance to win one of five to be given away. All proceeds from the jersey auction will be donated to the Active 20/30 Club. The Active 20/30 Club will be distributing the funds raised to local children's charities. Also, before the game, KGET-TV 17 will be hosting a Support the Troops Rally on Centennial Plaza.

Fans are encouraged to bring pre-paid phone cards to the rally for donation to Kern County Veterans Service's, Operation Uplink. The pre-paid phone cards will be donated to Kern County troops overseas. Tonight's game can be seen live on Bright House Networks (formally Time Warner Cable) Ch. 21 (Digital 21).

· Sunday, April 13th - A special replay of both playoff games 1 and 2 can by seen on Bright House Networks Ch. 21 (Digital 21). Game 1 will be replayed at 11:00 am with game 2 to follow at 2:00 pm.

Week in Review:

· Saturday, April 5th - The Greater Bakersfield Chamber of Commerce held its Beautiful Bakersfield "Crystal Camellia" Awards Banquet. The Condors were nominated for the Humanitarian Award for their community outreach programs benefiting thousands of Kern County residents in various ways though the donations of cash, goods, and services to a variety of causes.
