October 29, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Utah Grizzlies News Release
News and Notes:
Leading Scorer
With four goals in two games this past weekend, forward Scott Burt continues to be the team's leading scorer with four goals and two assists through five games.
More On Burt
After seven years and two ECHL Kelly Cup Championships as an Idaho Steelheads forward, Burt joins Utah for the 2007-2008 season. The Boise resident was named the "number one star" in both Utah victories this past weekend versus his former mates. His first homecoming to Qwest Arena in Boise is Wednesday when Utah will go for three-straight wins versus Idaho.
Captain Off To Best Start In Career
With four assists in five games, Travis Rycroft has tied the best offensive start in his professional career. The Utah captain had two goals and two assists through five games during the 2005-2006 season. Rycroft has been playing along side assistant captain Scott Burt and rookie Michael Haley.
Not In Our House
The Grizzlies are off to their first 2-0 start at the E-Center since the 2002-2003 season when they played in the AHL.
Team Effort
When the Grizzlies defeated Idaho 5-4 in overtime Friday, nine Utah players tallied points for Utah; five of those players tallied two points or more.
Shot Leader
For the second-straight week, Ryan Kinasewich leads the ECHL on Monday in shots on goal with 35. His next closest competitor stands at 24.
Holy Moley
Utah goaltender Mike Mole made his Utah debut this past weekend going 2-0 for the Grizzlies and posting a 3.30 GAA and a save percentage of .897. Mole had spent the previous weekend recalled to the Grizzlies and Islanders AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.
More Help From The AHL
Forward Olivier Labelle was assigned to the Grizzlies from Bridgeport prior to Saturday's game and was in uniform for "Pink In The Rink." The 22-year-old appeared in four games for the Sound Tigers this season and 74 games for the AHL's Syracuse Crunch last year posting 11 goals, 20 assists and 153 penalty minutes. Utah currently has 11 players on their team under contract with the Islanders or their AHL affiliate in Bridgeport.
Attendance Watch
The Grizzlies finished their home opening weekend 10th out of 25 teams in the ECHL in attendance, averaging 4,895 through two games. Utah's opening night crowd of 5,338 was the largest in the ECHL for the evening.
Pink In The Rink
The Grizzlies raised over $15,000 for the Huntsman Cancer Foundation with Saturday's post-game pink jersey auction. The Grizzlies played on pink ice, wore pink jerseys and some players used pink sticks as the Grizzlies raised money for breast cancer awareness. Utah is currently 2-0 with two shootout wins during "Pink In The Rink" games.
