Cincinnati Cyclones News Release

COMING UP: The Cincinnati Cyclones play four road games this week, part of the second-longest away stretch of the season. The trip begins in Elmira on Wednesday night and a follow up game comes on Friday night. Saturday, the Cyclones travel to Reading and then after a lengthy bus ride through the night--finish the trip up in Dayton on Sunday.

HOME OPENER ENDS WELL: The Cyclones won their home opener on Friday night (Oct. 26), a 5-3 triumph over Trenton. Rookie David Desharnais scored a pair of goals and Thomas Beauregard, Travis Fuller and Brian Schmidt all collected goals. Cedrick Desjardins stopped 21 shots in taking the win in his season-debut.

SATURDAY NIGHT WAS TOUGH: The Cyclones game on Saturday night (Oct. 27) did not have the same warm, fuzzy feeling as Friday. Cincinnati came out on the short end of a 2-1 score, as Trenton scored twice in the final five minutes. Barret Ehgoetz scored the Cyclones lone goal and despite outshooting the Devils by a 34-16 margin--Cincinnati could not gain the win.

SUNDAY'S GAME WAS CANCELLED: The Cyclones game at Dayton on Sunday was postponed after team warmups. The Zamboni ice resurfacer had a hydraulic malfunction that kept the machine from operating properly. The game will be re-scheduled for later in the season, a date has not been selected at this time.

THROWBACK: The Cincinnati Cyclones are on the road this week, but next week it will be an active one at U.S. Bank Arena. The highlight game of the week will be the ‘Throwback Night' on Saturday (Nov. 10), when the team will wear the bright yellow jerseys of the WHA's Cincinnati Stingers. Fans will have the opportunity to participate in an auction for those jerseys as well. Selected concession items and beverages will also be discounted to the 1970s era. Wednesday (Nov. 7) will be a ‘Wet Wednesday' and Thursday (Nov. 8) will be a ‘Thirsty Thursday' with selected beer being able for one dollar for a twelve ounce container.

SHOOT TO KILL: Cincinnati's 34-16 edge in shots Saturday was the most lopsided total since last season. On Dec. 15, the Cyclones outshot Johnstown by 20 (46-26) and clubbed the Chiefs, 7-2 at U.S. Bank Arena. Ironically, the last time Cincinnati outshot an opponent by exactly 18 shots was Nov. 11, 2006 versus Wheeling (52-34) in another 2-1 loss.

MORE SHOOTING NEWS: Cincinnati has outshot the opposition, 106-63, so far this season. The Cyclones rank sixth in the ECHL in shots at 35.33 per game. Cincinnati's average of just 21 shots per game is the best defensive effort in the league. The disparity of 14.33 shots per game between attempts taken and allowed, is the best in the league.

CHALK IT UP TO THE ROOKIES: In Friday's 5-3 win over Trenton, four rookies added seven of the twelve scoring points for the Cyclones. Cincinnati got a pair of goals from David Desharnais, a goal and an assist from Thomas Beauregard and Travis Fuller and an assist from Tyler Howells.

SCHMIDT TOPS AMONG DEFENSEMEN: Cyclones defenseman Bryan Schmidt is tied for the ECHL lead in scoring among rearguards. Schmidt has a pair of goals and three assists for five points. Saturday marked the first time this season that Bryan has not had a point in a game.

COMEBACK KIDS: The Cyclones have come from behind in both wins this season. Last year, it was not until Nov. 18 (12th game of the season) that Cincinnati had its second comeback win. Last season, Cincinnati rallied from deficits 13 times to win hockey games. Three times, the club was down a pair of goals and bounced back to win.

THIRD GAME WAS NOT A CHARM.....: After starting the 2006-07 season with a pair of wins, the Cyclones travelled to Trenton and had the victory string snapped in a 7-5 loss. That defeat launched a stretch that saw Cincinnati lose seven of nine games. Last night was the third game of the campaign.

POWER SURGE: The Cyclones rank third in the ECHL in power play percentage at 25 percent (five for 20). Since starting the campaign with a four-for-nine effort versus Dayton, Cincinnati is just one-for-eleven with the man-advantage since then.

OPENING NIGHT ENDS WELL: The Cyclones went into Dayton on Saturday (Oct. 20) and skated away with a 5-4 triumph. Travis Fuller had a pair of goals, Bryan Schmidt assembled a four-point night (1-3-4) and Jean-Michel Daoust, David Desharnais and James Sixsmith each had two point nights. Dov Grumet-Morris turned aside 18 shots in the win.

DESHARNAIS SIGNED BY HAMILTON: Cyclones rookie center David Desharnais was signed by the Hamilton Bulldogs (AHL) on Friday (Oct. 19). Hamilton immediately re-assigned Desharnais to Cincinnati, but retains his rights in the AHL. Desharnais becomes the fourth Cyclones player in the last season-plus to sign with the club and then receive a contract offer at the next level.

IN THE COMMUNITY: Tuesday (Oct. 23), nine Cyclones players visited Children's Hospital and signed autographs and visited with patients. Eight Cincinnati players went to Stephens Elementary (Burlington, KY) in the Boone County School system on Wednesday (Oct. 24) to read to children that afternoon. The team is three stops into what will be approximately 100 events scheduled for the players in the Greater Cincinnati community during the hockey season.

MAYBE IT'S THE CELEBRATION...: Cyclones rookie defenseman Tyler Howells celebrated his 24th birthday Saturday during the 5-4 win at Dayton by picking up his first pro goal. Cincinnati defenseman Conrad Martin turned 25 Thursday (Oct. 25). Since Martin's birthday, he has had an assist in each game played.

DEEP THINKERS: The Cincinnati Cyclones have an impressive lineup of intelligent hockey players, as 13 players on the roster have college undergraduate degrees. Seven forwards, five defensemen and one goaltender have completed their degree requirements.
