October 29, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Devils News Release

TRENTON, NJ - The Trenton Devils played their first games away from their home ice during a two-game set against the Cincinnati Cyclones at U.S. Bank Arena. The Cyclones were able to pull out a 5-3 victory in their home opener on Friday night, but it was the Devils getting some revenge the following evening in a 2-1 win. The Devils are now 2-3-0 on the season, tied for fourth place in the North Division. Trenton continues their five-game road stretch with matches against the Johnstown Chiefs on Wednesday, the Wheeling Nailers on Friday and the Dayton Bombers on Saturday.

STYMIED BY CINCY: Jim Henkel's two-goal, three-point effort was not enough for the Devils' comeback bid as they fell to the Cyclones, 5-3, on Friday. With his team trailing 3-1 in the second period, Henkel scored two goals, including one on the power play, in a span of 2:40 to tie the score 3-3. The Cylcones would answer back on the man-advantage and take the lead for good just 40 seconds into the third on a goal by Bryan Schmidt. Trenton left wing Eric Castonguay opened up the scoring in the contest with his third goal in as many games.

COMEBACK KIDS BEAT CYCLONES: Trenton netminder Jason Smith earned his first career victory as the Devils bested Cincinnati 2-1. After Cyclone forward Barrett Ehgoetz tallied the first goal of the game with 29 seconds remaining in the first period, both teams settled in for a defensive battle highlighted by Smith's 33-save performance. At 15:09 in the third, the Devils would rally to even the score via a power play goal by Stephen Wood. A minute and seven seconds was all that the Devils would require to pot the game-winner, as Beau McLaughlin notched the first goal of his Trenton career, giving the Devils a split of the weekend set.

QUICK HITS: Trenton has scored power play goals in each of their first five games (5-for-27, 18.5%)... The Devils were perfect on the penalty kill for the second time this season, going 6-for-6 in Saturday night's win over Cincinnati...Stephen Wood leads Trenton with two power play goals and three power play points...Jason Smith made 33 saves on Saturday for his first professional win.
