Anchorage, Alaska- The Alaska Aces took a 1-0 Series lead after a 4-1 win over the Utah Grizzlies in the opening game of the Kelly Cup Playoffs.

Despite a 8-3 advantage in shots on goal, the Aces were unable to put any pucks past Alfie Michaud, and the Grizzlies could not solve Matt Underhill, as the teams skated to a 0-0 tie after twenty minutes of play.

Alaska opened up the game early in the second period when Olivier Filion and Peter Metcalf assisted on Chris Minard's four-on-four goal at the 5:06 mark. Barrett Heisten cashed in on a deflection during a late power play to put the Aces up 2-0, with Kimbi Daniels and Matt Shasby picking up assists.

The Aces scored another four-on-four goal when Daniels found the back of the net, with help from Barrett Hesiten and Matt Shasby at 12:17 of the third period. Utah cut the lead to 3-1 when Ryan Kinasewich picked up a loose puck from a failed slapshot and hacked the puck into the net on a 5-on-3 power play at 18:20 of the final frame. The Grizzlies had a handful of quality scoring chances in the final minute but Alaska added an empty net insurance goal in the final seconds to seal the 4-1 win.

The series continues on Tuesday, April 11, in Anchorage, with faceoff at 9:15 p.m.
