Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The ECHL announced today that Gladiators defenseman Steve Slaton has been named the InGlasCo ECHL Player of the Week for the week of April 2nd through the 8th. Slaton becomes the 6th different Gladiator to win the award this season helping Gwinnett set the ECHL record for most "Player of the Week" winners from one team in one year.
Slaton helped the Gladiators reach 50 wins on the season with victories in Gwinnett's final two regular season games last weekend. He finished the week with 4 goals and an assists for 5 points in three games for the Gladiators.
The Plymouth, Minnesota native had a power play goal, which proved to be the game winner in the Gladiators 5-1 win over South Carolina on April 7th. He then followed that up with a natural hat trick which was his first professional hat trick, a pair of power play goals and the game winning goal in the Gladiators 5-3 win over the Augusta Lynx on April 8th.
Slaton finished the season ranked second in scoring among defensemen with 36 points off of 18 goals and 18 assists. He was the only player with Gwinnett this season to appear in all 72 games for the Gladiators.
Slaton joins Pascal Pelletier, Guillaume Desbiens, Brad Schell, Milan Gajic and Jon Awe as InGlasCo ECHL Players of the Week. The six Gladiators selected as players of the week this season surpasses the previous high of five winners from one team originally set by the Louisiana IceGators during the 1999-00 season.
