Gladiators' Slaton Named In Glas Co ECHL Player Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Steve Slaton of the Gwinnett Gladiators is the In Glas Co ECHL Player of the Week for Apr. 3-9.

He is the sixth player from Gwinnett to win the weekly honor which is the most in league history.

The 23-year-old defenseman had two game-winning goals and five points (4g-1a) as Gwinnett went 2-1-0 to become only the eighth team in ECHL history to win 50 games, finishing atop the American Conference at 50-17-7 with a team record 107 points.

After scoring the game winner with a power-play goal in a 5-1 win against South Carolina on Apr. 7, Slaton scored a hat trick, including the game-winning goal and two power-play goals, and added an assist as the Gladiators beat Augusta 5-3.

The 5-foot-10 and 190-pound Slaton has 36 points (18g-18a) in 72 regular season games after scoring 24 points (2g-22a) in 69 games a year ago, including 13 points (2g-11a) in 59 games with Columbia. He began his professional career in 2003-04 when he played three games with Greensboro of the ECHL, registering an assist, after completing his college season at Princeton University.

The native of Plymouth, Minn. played four years with Princeton from 2000-04 scoring 35 points (7g-28a) in 121 games. He has also played two years in the United States Hockey League, scoring 21 points (6g-15a) in 58 games with Waterloo in 1999-2000 and 22 points (7g-15a) in 54 games with Fargo Moorhead in 1998-99.

On behalf of Steve Slaton, a case of pucks will be donated to a Duluth, Ga. area youth hockey organization by In Glas Co, the exclusive puck supplier for the ECHL. In Glas Co has donated over 14,000 pucks to youth hockey organizations in ECHL cities since it began sponsoring the award in 2000-01.
