Grizzlies Clinch Playoff Berth With 2-1 Win In Victoria

Victoria, British Columbia - The Utah Grizzlies (33-28-4-5) defeated the Victoria Salmon Kings 2-1 in regulation Wednesday night in Victoria. The win officially clinches a Utah playoff berth for the fourth time in five years.

Utah took a 2-1 lead as Ryan Kinasewich eluded four Victoria defenders against the wall and fed Matt Sorteberg who walked into the right-wing circle and buried his second goal of the year 8:40 into the third period.

Kinasewich tied the game with his 46th goal of the year 2:56 into the second period and 27 seconds into a Utah power-play. James Sixsmith extended his scoring streak to nine games and Dylan Hunter his to eleven with assists on the play. The goal also tied Kinasewich with Kip Miller (46, 1994-95) for the most goals in a season in Grizzlies history.

Utah fell behind 1-0 1:15 into the game on the Salmon Kings second shot of the night as Matt Siddall redirected a puck home three seconds into a Victoria power-play. Utah goaltender Mikko Koskinen however stopped the remaining 22 shots that he saw and 23 of 24 overall to improve to 5-0 with Utah.

Utah completes the regular season in Victoria Friday and Saturday. Face-off both nights is scheduled for 8:05 p.m.
