Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The South Carolina Stingrays scored twice before a full minute had ticked off the clock in the opening period and never looked back, leading for all but 27 seconds of the contest, to take a 5-1 South Division victory over the Gwinnett Gladiators in front of a sparse Wednesday night audience of 1,522 at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. Rob Ricci netted his 25th goal of the season just 27 seconds after the opening faceoff, and Gregg Johnson made it 2-0 just 17 seconds later, and that was all the Stingrays needed, as they cruised to an easy victory over a lackluster Gladiators squad.

South Carolina would add goals from Keith Johnson and Nikita Kashirski in the second period before Adam Berti broke up Beau Erickson's shutout bid 6:47 into the third period with a soft shot that snuck between the net minder's pads, cutting the lead to 4-1.

But Trent Campbell added his second marker of the contest with a shorthanded strike at 14:20 of the third period, and the score stood up, as the Stingrays won for just the second time in their last six.

Beau Erickson finished with 26 saves, earning his ninth victory of the season, while at the other end, Gwinnett's David Brown stopped 27 of 32 South Carolina shots, taking his third straight loss.

South Carolina went 1-for-5 on the power play, while Gwinnett finished 0-for-2, falling back to .500 on the season at 31-31-5-3. South Carolina improves to 39-19-6-6 as they continue to chase the Charlotte Checkers in a race for the South Division title.

The teams play again Friday night at the Arena at Gwinnett Center at 7:35 p.m., before the teams wrap up their respective regular season schedules on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
