Victoria Salmon Kings News Release
Victoria, BC - In a Wednesday night matchup the Victoria Salmon Kings and Utah Grizzlies met in the first of a three-game set at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. Victoria's Matt Keetley got the start in net while Utah gave the nod to Mikko Koskinen.
Victoria scored the lone goal of the first period just 1:15 after puck drop while on the power play. Off of a face-off win, Brandon Roach released a shot from the right point with Matt Siddall tipping the puck past Koskinen. For Siddall it was his 19th goal of the season. Keetley stopped all 13 shots he faced as the Salmon Kings skated into the intermission with a 1-0 advantage.
Utah knotted the game while on the power play at the 2:56 mark of the middle frame. Grizzlies' captain Ryan Kinasewich fired a slapshot from the top of the right faceoff circle past the glove of Keetley. The goal was Kinasewich's league-leading 46th of the year. Both teams exchanged chances with Koskinen making eight saves and Keetley stopping 11 shots. After two periods of play the score was deadlocked at 1-1.
The Grizzlies took the lead at the 8:40 mark when Kinasewich fed a behind the back cross-ice pass to a streaking Matt Sorteberg who fired a shot from the right boards past the glove of the Salmon Kings' netminder. Sorteberg's goal was his second of the campaign. Victoria pulled the goaltender in the final minute but were unable to capitalize with the extra attacker. Grizzlies 2 Salmon Kings 1
Victoria went 1/3 = 33.3% on the power play while Utah was 1/2 = 50.0%. The Grizzlies outshot the Salmon Kings 31-24.
The Salmon Kings continue their three-game set against Utah on Friday, and Saturday night. Puck drop for both games is at 7:05 p.m. at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre. This Saturday's contest is Fan Appreciation night where one lucky fan is guaranteed to win a 2009 Cadillac SRX courtesy of Dave Wheaton Chevrolet Buick Cadillac GMC and the Times Colonist. Thus Saturday is also "Sellout Saturday". Nearly sold out, limited Club Seats and singles in the bowl are still available.
