South Carolina Stingrays News Release
Duluth, GA - The South Carolina Stingrays (39-19-6-6) started the scoring just 27 seconds into the game and never looked back as they defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators (31-31-5-3) 5-1 in front of 1,522 at The Arena at Gwinnett Center Wednesday night. Forward Trent Campbell potted two goals and an assist and goaltender Beau Erickson earned his first win in a Stingrays uniform kicking away 26 of 27 Gladiators shots.
The Stingrays found the twine on the first shot of the game just 27 seconds into the contest as forward Rob Ricci buried a wrist shot from the bottom of the right-wing circle over the glove of Gladiators goaltender David Brown. Forward Spencer Carbery and defenseman Johann Kroll registered assists on Ricci's 25 goal of the season. Forward Gregg Johnson lit the lamp 17 seconds later from forwards David de Kastrozza and Michael Dubuc for a two-goal lead.
Stingrays forward Keith Johnson made it 3-0 with a power-play tally at 10:35 of the second period from Campbell and defenseman Dylan Yeo. Campbell netted a goal of his own at 13:03 from forward Nikita Kashirsky for his 17 tally of the season.
The Gladiators jumped on the board at 6:47 of the third period as forward Adam Berti snuck a shot under the right arm of Erickson from the top of the left-wing circle. Forward Daniel Sullivan and defenseman Phil Youngclaus recorded assists. Stingrays' Campbell completed the game scoring with an unassisted shorthanded goal at 14:20. Brown suffered his 11 loss of the season stopping 27 of 32 Stingrays opportunities. The Stingrays ended the night 1-for-5 on the power play while the Gladiators went 0-for-2.
The Stingrays continue the three-game series versus Gwinnet on Friday, April 2 at 7:35 p.m. at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. Listen to all the action LIVE on www.stingrayshockey.com.
