Utah Grizzlies News Release
Anchorage, Alaska - The Utah Grizzlies (25-20-5-3) defeated the Alaska Aces (24-22-3-2) 4-0 Sunday evening in Anchorage.
After an overtime loss Friday, the Grizzlies finished the series against Alaska with a 3-2 win last night and this 4-0 victory to collect five of a possible six points in the weekend division series.
"This is just huge for us as a team and it's great to come home with five points," said Ryan Hayes. "We were just trying to get the points and the win."
Grizzlies goaltender Igor Bobkov stopped all 30 shots he saw to improve to 10-6-2-0 as he earned his second shutout in four games.
After the Grizzlies killed four minutes in the first 8:15 of the game shorthanded with some big saves by Bobkov, they took a 1-0 lead 18:14 into the first period. Alex Krushelnyski fed Michael Pelech who walked in and backhanded home his team leading 25th goal of the year.
Utah made it 2-0 6:55 into the second period as Ryan Hayes ripped home his 17th of the year and third of the weekend as the Grizzlies came up ice in transition. Michael Pelech and Corey Fienhage assisted on the goal.
The Grizzlies made it 3-0 in the third period on a T.J. Syner power-play goal as he fired in a rebound on a Channing Boe blast 5:08 into the period. Barry Almeida also picked up an assist.
Almeida scored into an empty-net from Syner with 23 seconds left to make it 4-0.
