Alaska Aces News Release
ANCHORAGE, Alaska. - Igor Bobkov earned a 30 save shutout to lift the Utah Grizzlies over the Alaska Aces, 4-0 in a three-game series finale before 3,583 fans at Sullivan Arena on Sunday.
With 21 games left in the regular season, the Aces ended the week five points out of fourth place (held by Utah) in the Pacific Division, shut out for the first time since Oct. 18 against Ontario. Michael Pelech's first period goal stood as the game winner.
Troy Redmann turned away several good looks by Utah early in the first period, including two straight close range bids by Ryan Hayes, but Michael Pelech converted Alex Krushelnyski's feed in front with a backhander at 18:14 for a 1-0 Utah lead.
Alaska's power play, 13-of-34 in the last eight game, was silenced in four opportunities including two chances in the first eight minutes of the game.
After Redmann made a series of impressive saves in the second period, Hayes skated back into the Aces and put a slap shot under the crossbar for a 2-0 lead at 6:55. T.J. Syner earned a third period power play goal, a rebound at the net from Channing Boe's left point blast, and the Aces fell into a 3-0 hole at 5:08.
Barry Almeida's empty net goal closed the scoring at 4-0 with 23 seconds left in regulation.
