Mallards Roll 6-3

Quad City Mallards News Release

BRAMPTON, Ont. (February 22, 2015) - Kevin Baker and Todd Fiddler provided a goal and two assists apiece as the Quad City Mallards (26-19-6) rolled to a 6-3 win over the host Brampton Beast (16-32-2) Sunday. With the victory the Mallards insured they will finish the day in sole possession of second place in the ECHL's Central Division.

The Mallards broke the game open with four second period goals. Quad City was on the power play when Nicholas Rioux snapped a 2-2 deadlock by converting Jeff Lee's cross-ice pass at 2:36 of the second. At 7:03, Justin Fox raced in alone to stretch the Mallard lead to a pair with what proved to be the game winning goal. Just over two minutes later Baker's bullet from the right wing circle widened the gap to 5-2. Anthony Collins scored what was overall the fifth unanswered Mallard goal from the doorstep with two minutes and six seconds left in the middle frame.

A power play goal from the Beast's Chad Painchaud- who wristed the puck in from the right wing circle- at 2:01 of the third period did nothing to affect the outcome of the contest.

Before taking control, the Mallards twice had to battle from behind to tie the game in the first period. After Brampton's Stephon Thorne opened the scoring from the right wing circle at 3:46 of the first the Mallards' Todd Fiddler knotted the contest at one with a solo rush at 11:24. That deadlock lasted just 41 seconds before Jason Pitton put Brampton back on top with a wrist shot from the top of the left wing circle. The Mallards evened the score a second time when Pearce Eviston buried a rebound at 17:36.

The Mallards and Beast meet again in Brampton tomorrow. The Mallards next play at home Wednesday evening at 7:05 p.m. against the Allen Americans. Fans can purchase four tickets to each Mallards Wednesday home game this season for just $20. In addition, after each Wednesday home contest, fans can join the Mallards at T.G.I.
