Grizzles drop 3-1 contest versus Idaho

West Valley City, Utah - The Idaho Steelheads added an empty-net goal with 36 seconds left in regulation to defeat the Utah Grizzlies (17-15-0-3) 3-1 Friday night at the E-Center. The loss snaps Utah's three-game winning streak.

Idaho jumped up 2-0 in the first period with two even-strength goals. Craig Cescon knocked in a rebound at 11:46 and Blake Forsyth shot a puck through traffic at 15:35 as the Steelheads built a 2-0 lead.

The Grizzlies made it 2-1 as Justin Bourne fed Keith Johnson for his 16th goal of the year on a breakaway at 6:57 of the second period. Sean Offers picked up the second assist.

In the third, a Scott Burt shot hit a post and the Grizzlies were unable to convert on three power-plays in the final 8:43 of the game. Utah outshot Idaho 12-5 in the third period.

The Grizzlies outshot Idaho 33-23 in the game.

Utah went 0-6 on the power-play and 4-4 on the penalty-kill.

Mike Mole (9-7-0-2) returned to the Utah lineup stopping 20 of 22 shots in goal.

The two teams will rematch at the E-Center Saturday at 7:05 p.m. as the Grizzlies play game two of their six-game home stand.
