January 11, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Dayton Bombers News Release

Dayton, OH- Closing out an extended home stand, the defending American Conference Champion Dayton Bombers would send 3,431 fans home with an exciting 5-2 win over division rival Trenton on Friday night.

For only the second time this season, the Trenton Devils skated into the E.J. Nutter Center looking to continue Dayton's recent loss skid (5-1 against Reading on Wednesday). Despite an even period, Dayton and Trenton would remain scoreless through the first twenty minutes of play, with the Devils having a slight edge in first period shots on goal 8-6.

The second period picked up where the first had left off, with both teams playing to an even tempo until the Bombers created an explosion of offense just past the halfway point of the period. Facing former Ohio State teammate and current Trenton goaltender Dave Caruso, Bombers leading scorer Matt Beaudoin would connect with a Yannick Tifu centering pass for the corner to lead the scoring charge. Chris Eade also nabbed an assist on the first goal of the game, a power play goal scored at the 13:45 mark of the period. Dayton's Brad Bonello answered just :45 later by sending home a loose puck in front of Caruso's net, this time assisted by Chanse Fitzpatrick and Mike Berry at 14:30. Up by a pair of goals, Bombers forward Mike Walsh picked up his fifth goal of the season assisted by Ryan Reid and Peter Flache at the 14:48 mark, completing the three-goal drive in only 1:01 of time. Shots in the second period favored Dayton 13-11.

Trenton's Jim Henkel capitalized on a defensive lapse just 1:03 into the third period to score their first goal of the night, his seventh of the season to make it 3-1. Henkel's eighth goal of the season and second of the night would come on the power play at the 4:00 mark to bring the game to within one. Heightened excitement would keep the game close, until a behind the back pass from Yannick Tifu found its way behind Dave Caruso courtesy of Matt Beaudoin, his second of the night and team-leading 22nd of the season, with the second assist being credited to captain Greg Labenski at 9:52. Back in front by a pair, Brad Bonello would score his second of the night and 11th goal of the season from a rare end-boards bounce unassisted at 10:34 to cap the scoring at 5-2 for the win. Trenton led in final shots 32-25.

With the win, Dayton improves its record to 17-10-7 for 41 points and a share of third place with the Reading Royals (also with 41). The Bombers begin a five-game road trip on Saturday, as they faceoff against rival Wheeling Nailers at Wheeling's WesBanco Arena at 7:35pm. Fans can tune into the internet broadcast via b2 Networks at daytonbombers.com, echl.com and b2livetv.com starting at 7:20pm, with JT Szabo handling the call.
