Florida Everblades News Release

What a difference a night makes. A night after crushing the Florida Everblades 7-1, the Augusta Lynx were on the other end of the spectrum on Friday as Florida handed Augusta a 6-1 loss in front of a season-high crowd of 4,174 fans. In their last two games prior to Friday the Lynx had scored a combined 13 goals, but another high-powered offensive night was not to be for the Lynx. Things didn't go well from the start for Augusta and goaltender #30 Bobby Goepfert, who gave up two goals on the first two Everblades shots of the game, both from Derek Damon.

Damon completed the natural hat-trick in the 1st period with his 3rd goal and the Everblades led 3-0 after the 1st period. During the intermission, it was discovered that a pipe beneath the ice had burst at one end of the rink. For the next 35 minutes the Lynx staff worked feverishly to get the area frozen enough for play to continue.

As the 2nd period finally commenced, the Everblades continued scoring as Kirk MacDonald and Brad Brown lit the lamp, chasing Goepfert from the net after the 4th goal in favor of #35 JP Levasseur. Levasseur made several good saves the rest of the way out, but couldn't stop two sent his way as Florida went up 6-0. Numerous timeouts to keep the patch of ice frozen didn't help the Lynx generate any goals until :15 seconds remaining the game when on the power play, #10 Geoff Peters scored his first goal in a Lynx uniform, spoiling the shutout of Everblades goaltender David Shantz, who stopped 36 Lynx shots on the night. #3 Brian Yandle and #12 Ryan Dingle assisted on the lone Lynx goal.
