January 11, 2008 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release
The Gwinnett Gladiators announced today that goaltender Craig Kowalski has been assigned to the team after spending three weeks with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League.
Kowalski signed a professional tryout contract with the Crunch on December 15 and played in four games while in Syracuse. The Clinton Township, MI native recorded a 2-1-0-0 record in his four appearances with a 0.906 save percentage and a 2.36 goals against average.
The highlight of Kowalski's time in the AHL was a December 29 shutout against the Rochester Americans. The 5-foot-8 and 180-pound Kowalski turned away all 19 shots he faced en route to his sixth professional shutout.
At the time of his call-up, Kowalski lead the Gladiators with an 11-3-1 record as well as a 2.25 goals against average and 0.926 save percentage. All three of those marks were good to rank him in the top ten in the ECHL.
Kowalski was also named ECHL Goalie of the Week for the week of December 3-9. He has been selected to start in his first ECHL All-Star game as well.
Kowalski should be available tonight as the Gladiators play host to the Pensacola Ice Pilots in the first of two straight games at the Arena at Gwinnett Center. The puck will drop at 7:35 pm for both games.
