Greenville Stops The Rays In a Shoot Out 3-2

North Charleston, SC The Greenville Grrrowl killed off five straight Stingrays power plays in the third period and Mike Brodeur had 44 saves including 23 in the third period and overtime as Greenville beat the Rays 3-2 in shoot out.

With the shoot out loss the Rays are now 2-1-3 on the season, while Greenville improves to 3-2.

"We ran into a hot goaltender tonight and just couldn't get one past him at the end," commented Jason Fitzsimmons, whose team is now 0-3 in shoot outs and overtime. "He (Brodeur) was fantastic and earned his team a big two points on the road."

Greenville grabbed a 1-0 lead in the first period when Krys Barch made an nice move on a two on one and wristed a goal above the right shoulder of Maxime Daigneault just 53 seconds into the game.

The Rays tied the game in the second period when Robin Gomez scored his third goal of the season. Gomez took a face off from Ryan Finnerty on the left side hash mark and wristed the puck between the legs of Mike Brodeur to get the Rays on the board. Greenville grabbed the lead back in the final minute of the second when Jordan Little backhanded the puck from his knees past Daigneault for his first professional goals at the 19:11 mark.

Dave Spina tied the game in the third when he redirected an Deryk Engelland shot for his third of the season, but then Brodeur shut the door. The Greenville netminder denied the Rays on a three minute plus five on three to help the Grrrowl get to the extra session and the win.

In the shoot out, Greenville got three straight goals by Mosienko, Radunske and Snowden for the win, while Brodeur denied Hecimovic, Clapton and Legue to improve to 2-1 on the season.

The Stingrays wrap up a three game home stand with games on Friday and Saturday night against Gwinnett and Charlotte.
