Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Alaska goaltender Chris Beckford-Tseu has earned the Reebok Hockey ECHL Saver of the Week award for October 24-30.

The 21-year-old Beckford-Tseu capped a near-perfect weekend with his second professional shutout, stopping all 23 shots he faced as the Aces blanked Bakersfield Sunday evening, 4-0. Currently under contract to Alaska's NHL affiliate in St. Louis, who drafted him in the fifth round two years ago, he nearly whitewashed the Condors two nights earlier, giving up only a power play goal late in the second period in a 3-1 victory. Beckford-Tseu stopped 52 of 53 shots (.981 save percentage) over the weekend to help the Aces take five of a possible six points in the series and run his personal record to 3-0.

The Toronto native currently ranks third in the ECHL with a 1.33 goals against average and fifth with a .949 save percentage. Only Idaho's Matthew Yeats has more wins (four). Beckford-Tseu went 11-12-3 with a 2.71 GAA for Peoria (at that time an ECHL member) in his rookie season, including a 6-4 loss to the Aces February 24.

Defenseman Zack Fitzgerald received a 10-game suspension from the ECHL for two separate infractions in the Bakersfield series. He will be eligible to return to action December 2 at Long Beach.

Alaska enters its weekend series at the "E" Center against the Utah Grizzlies with a record of 4-1-1, just one point behind unbeaten Idaho in the West Division. Both games in Salt Lake City will begin at 5:05 p.m. AST, with the Aces staying on the road for a three-game series against the Steelheads that starts Wednesday, November 9. All games, home and away, will be broadcast live on KFQD AM 750 and at www.alaskaaces.com. In addition, all games (excluding road contests at Long Beach and Victoria) will be available on a pay-per-view basis on the internet, courtesy of B2 Networks.
