Sacramento River Cats News Release

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Grant Green launched two home runs, including a game-tying three-run shot in the third, and a go-ahead solo blast in the eighth, powering the River Cats to a 7-4 win over the Reno Aces on Thursday night at Raley Field.

The Aces got to Sacramento starter Sonny Gray early, scoring four runs in the second inning. Four straight hits-including three consecutive RBI knocks from the bottom third of the Reno batting order-highlighted the scoring effort. A poor defensive sequence from Reno in the bottom half of the inning got the Cats on the board, when a throwing error from Ace's center fielder Tony Campana allowed Michael Taylor to score from first base on a Hiro Nakajima hit.

Grant Green pulled the Cats even in the third inning, driving a ball over the left field wall for a three-run home run. Both teams were held scoreless until the eighth inning, when Green broke the tie with a solo shot to left, giving the Cats their first lead of the game. Three batters, later, Taylor delivered a two-run homer off of Aces reliever Evan Marshall-his ninth of the season-to triple the Sacramento lead. A 1-2-3 inning from Brian Gordon in the ninth inning locked down the series opener, giving Sacramento their 12th win in June and Gordon his fourth save of the season.

With a 1-for-3 night at the plate, Nakajima continued his success against right-handed pitching. The infielder is hitting .313 against right-handers-tops on the team-with four home runs and 12 RBIs. Gray bounced back nicely after the second inning, retiring 16-of-the-last-18 batters he faced. His eight strikeouts place him ahead of Colorado Springs' Drew Pomeranz for the league lead with 98 on the season. Green is now tied for the team lead with 11 homers, and is hitting .318 on the year.

Hideki Okajima earned the win for the Cats, pitching a scoreless eighth inning of relief with one strikeout to setup the Gordon save. Eury De La Rosa was the hard-luck loser for the Aces, surrendering the Green solo blast in his 0.2 innings of work.

The River Cats are back in action against the Aces on Fireworks Friday and Rally Towel Giveaway day when right-handers Dan Straily (3-0, 0.96 ERA) and Mike Bolsinger (2-2, 4.37 ERA) square off at 7:05 p.m. at Raley Field.
