Redbirds Walk off on Brock Peterson's Extra-Inning Blast

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Brock Peterson sent the Redbirds home happy with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 5-3 win over the visiting Albuquerque Isotopes on Thursday night at AutoZone Park.

Peterson's two-run blast was his league-leading 19th of the season and third hit of the evening.

It was the sixth last at-bat victory for Memphis, which improved to 3-6 in extra-inning affairs (1-4 at home) this season. The Redbirds are now 3-10 against the Isotopes in 2013.

Kolten Wong added two hits, including a double. Greg Garcia also doubled and scored two runs.

The Redbirds moved out to a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second as Garcia reached third base on a pair of Isotopes errors. Rob Johnson followed by ripping an RBI single to left.

Boone Whiting was charged with one run whiling laboring through 3 2/3 hitless innings, striking out six and walking four. On the second pitch from reliever Rondon in relief of Whiting in the fourth, Elevys Gonzalez hit a two-out triple off the right field wall to tie the game.

Rondon quickly put Memphis back of ahead at 2-1 in the next frame in his first professional plate appearance. Garcia hit a one-out double and scored easily as Rondon smoked an RBI two-bagger off of the center field wall. Memphis added its next run on a Tommy Pham RBI single up the middle in the next inning.

Albuquerque was able to knot the contest and send the game to extras, scoring two runs on a costly throwing error in the eighth inning. With the bases juiced and one out, Mitchell Boggs induced a potential inning-ending double play, but Garcia's throw to first ended up in the Albuquerque dugout to allow the tying run to score from second base.

Rondon allowed his only inherited runner to score in his 1 1/3 innings. Marc Rzepczynski scattered two hits over a pair of scoreless innings. Boggs allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits in an inning. In his first outing since being optioned, Fernando Salas (1-0) struck out two in two innings to earn the win.

Rob Rasmussen pitched his best Triple-A outing this season for a no-decision, yielding three runs (two earned) on eight hits in five innings. Anthony Ortega (4-4) gave up the homer to Peterson for the loss.

The two teams will continue their series at 7:05 pm CT on Friday night at AutoZone Park. Right-hander Scott McGregor (2-4, 6.68) will start for the Redbirds against right-hander Blake Johnson (6-4, 3.72).
