ROUND ROCK, Texas - The Round Rock Express (46-36) was never able to overcome an early eight-run deficit as the New Orleans Zephyrs (41-41) took game two of the four-game set 9-4 Friday night.

Express starter Brad Mills allowed eight runs over 2.1 innings of work in what was his shortest outing of the season.

The Zephyrs jumped all over Mills in the first, scoring three runs on two hits before the E-Train came to bat. After the first two New Orleans batters reached base, a force out left runners on first and third with one out. Three pitches into Kyle Jensen's at-bat, the left fielder ripped a three-run home run, blasting Mills' 1-1 offering onto the right field berm to put New Orleans up 3-0.

The left-hander ran into trouble again in the third as the Zephyrs put five more runs on the board. Three RBI singles and a two-run double gave the Z's their five runs and chased Mills from the game after recording just one out in the frame. Right-hander Ryan Rodebaugh took over in relief and worked out of the inning to help the E-Train limit the damage but Round Rock still trailed by eight runs.

The Express got two runs back in the bottom of the third courtesy of a two-out rally. After the first two batters were retired, left fielder Aaron Cunningham started the rally with a single and was followed by another single off the bat of center fielder Jared Hoying. Solarte brought both runners across the plate with a two-run double off the right field wall to cut the score to 8-2.

A RBI ground out by catcher Eli Whiteside in the bottom of the fourth brought the score to 8-3 but New Orleans catcher Koyie Hill blasted a solo shot in top of the fifth to keep the E-Train at a six-run deficit.

Right-hander Joakim Soria, in his first rehab appearance with the Express, worked an inning in relief, tossing a scoreless sixth in which he allowed one hit while striking out two as the Express bullpen allowed just one run over 6.2 innings.

Designated hitter Mike Bianucci added a two-out solo home run in the bottom of the ninth but it was too little, too late as the New Orleans bullpen finished off the final batter for the game two victory.

Mill (7-2) suffered his second loss of the season and first since June 11 while Zephyrs starter Doug Mathis (3-6) picked up the win.

The Express continues a four-game home stand with game three against the New Orleans Zephyrs at 7:05 p.m. Saturday night. Right-hander Evan Meek (1-3, 4.30 ERA) will be handed the ball for the E-Train while southpaw Brian Flynn (2-7, 4.03 ERA) will start for New Orleans. Saturday will be Used Car Night, presented by Nyle Maxwell Family of Dealerships at Dell Diamond as four themed used cars will be paraded around the field during select innings and raffled off during the game.
