June 28, 2013 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Oklahoma City Comets News Release

Today's Game: The RedHawks and Sounds will play a doubleheader consisting of two seven-inning games starting at 6:05 p.m. Today will make up for a rainout on April 11.

Last Game: Nashville hit a pair of home runs and received a strong starting pitching performance from rehabbing Hiram Burgos to beat the RedHawks 5-2 Thursday night. A solo homer from Khris Davis and a two-run shot from Josh Prince in the fifth put Nashville in front, 3-0. An RBI triple by Blake Davis in the sixth and a two-out RBI double by Khris Davis gave the Sounds a 5-0 lead in the seventh inning. Burgos (1-2) held the RedHawks scoreless through five innings, allowing three hits, one walk and striking out five. Oklahoma City scored in the eighth and ninth innings with a RBI single from Carlos Perez and a home run by Jimmy Paredes, respectively. For the first time in six starts, Asher Wojciechowski (3-4) allowed more than three runs in a game. He was charged with four runs and five hits in 5.2 innings, while he struck out five and tied a season high with four walks.

Today's Probable Pitchers: Brett Oberholtzer will start game one for the RedHawks...He helped lead the RedHawks to an 11-2 win against Omaha in his last start June 22. Oberholtzer (5-6) threw a season-high 7.2 innings, allowing two runs on seven hits with four strikeouts. The outing tied his longest start as a RedHawk (8/20/12 @ Round Rock) and he did not allow a run until giving up an RBI single to the final hitter he faced...Oberholtzer has worked at least six innings in three of his last four starts and has allowed two or less runs in six of his last nine starts. The lefty has walked two or less hitters in 11 of his 14 starts this season...He ranks second on the team in wins (five), starts (14), innings pitched (68.0) and strikeouts (58).

Jake Buchanan will start game two for Oklahoma City in his first appearance with the club this season after being promoted to Triple-A earlier this week...He went 7-2 with one save and a Texas League-leading 2.09 ERA in 18 games (13 starts) with Double-A Corpus Christi. He ranked first in the league in WHIP (0.93), fourth in average (.226) and fifth in innings (82.0)...Through 15 games this season, his ERA was just 0.80, and he did not allow an earned run between April 30-May 30 (32.2 IP)...He has walked just nine batters all season and is averaging less than one walk per nine innings with a 4.9 strikeout-to-walk ratio...On Tuesday Buchanan participated in the 2013 Texas League All-Star Game, allowing two hits in one scoreless inning...The right-hander pitched in three games for OKC last season, with one start. He allowed 10 runs and 17 hits over 8.0 IP.

Against the Sounds: 2013: 6-2 2012: 13-3 All-time: 133-115 In NAS: 61-63

Last night's loss snapped a six-game winning streak against the Sounds. It was Nashville's first victory over OKC since a 1-0 triumph on April 8...The RedHawks have held the Sounds to two runs or less in five of eight meetings, limiting the Sounds to a .216 average...In their previous trip to Greer Stadium, the RedHawks won two of three in a rain-shortened, three-game series. It was a low-scoring series, with the two teams putting up 13 runs combined (OKC-8, NAS-5)...In 2012 the RedHawks dominated the season series, winning 13 of 16 games, including six of eight in Nashville...The RedHawks pitching staff posted an outstanding 2.67 ERA...OKC has claimed the season series in four of the last five years.

Double Dipping: Today is the RedHawks third doubleheader in six days and the seventh doubleheader of the season, which will tie them with Omaha for the most in the PCL. The RedHawks are 5-7 in doubleheader games, including 2-4 on the road. The last time they swept a doubleheader was at Greer Stadium last year on April 19 (4-3, 4-2). Since then they have split six doubleheaders and been swept once. Six of the last seven games they have played during doubleheaders have been decided by one run.

Widening the Gap: Each of the RedHawks previous four losses against Nashville prior to last night had been by just one run. Yesterday was the Sounds largest margin of victory against the RedHawks since a 13-2 runaway win on July 28, 2011.

Opening Acts: Thursday marked the highly anticipated Triple-A debut of outfielder George Springer after his recent promotion from Double-A Corpus Christi. Springer went 0-for-4 with three strikeouts. The outfielder led the Texas League in strikeouts before joining OKC (96). Infielder Marwin Gonzalez also played his first game with the RedHawks this season Thursday after being optioned from Houston and went 2-for-3.

Bonjour, Wade: Pitcher Wade LeBlanc will join the RedHawks after he cleared waivers and was outrighted to Oklahoma City. LeBlanc began the year in the Miami Marlins starting rotation (1-5, 5.18 ER) before being designated for assignment in early June. The Astros claimed him off waivers on June 8, and the lefty made three appearances out of the Houston bullpen (five runs, four hits over 3.2 IP). He was designated for assignment again earlier this week. LeBlanc has spent parts of the last five seasons in the PCL with Portland/Tucson and New Orleans.

Paredes Power: Since rejoining the RedHawks on June 21, Jimmy Paredes has gone 9-for-30, with seven hits going for extra bases. He has hit both of the team's only two home runs over the past five games.

Starting Line: Over the last 11 games, the RedHawks starting rotation has posted a 2.24 ERA (17 ER/68.1 IP). In the last 16 games, OKC starting pitchers have allowed one or no earned runs eight times, with 10 quality starts.

Full of Up-Zeid: Josh Zeid's last five appearances have resulted in one win and four saves. He leads OKC relievers in wins (4) and strikeouts (37). Overall this season, Zeid is 6-for-6 in save opportunities.
