Omaha Storm Chasers News Release

LAST NIGHT'S LOSS: The Storm Chasers missed an opportunity to gain ground with a 4-2 loss as the offense was held to less than five runs for the 11th time in 13 games. Right-hander Kelvin Herrera started the game and gave up a first inning two-run homer, his ninth homer in 33.1 innings between Kansas City and Omaha this season, after he had allowed 11 homers in the last two seasons over 154.0 innings.

MILLION IN PAPILLION: With 6,126 fans last night, the Storm Chasers sit 5,403 fans away from 1,000,000 in the history of Werner Park. Over 172 total game dates in the two plus year history of the stadium, Omaha has attracted 5,782 fans per game.

NO SUPPORT FOR MARKS: Chasers starter Justin Marks has lost six consecutive starts, the first Omaha starting pitcher since Ryan Jensen lost eight consecutive outings during the 2005 season from July 21 to August 25. In those six straight losses, Marks has only received nine runs of support. Marks has the worst run support average of any Chasers starter in 2013 at 1.9 runs per game (19 runs in his 10 starts).

NO FALU-KE: Irving Falu notched his 11th stolen base of the season last night, and with that steal he tied Terry Shumpert (1989-93) for 7th place all-time in Omaha history with 80 stolen bases. Falu also collected a hit in the loss, giving him 575 in his career with the Omaha Royals/Storm Chasers, trailing Luis de los Santos (1987-90) for third place all-time at 577 hits.

GO GO GIO: Johnny Giavotella has racked up 15 hits and five multi-hit games during his current nine-game hitting streak (longest active streak on Omaha) and with 15-for-32 surge he has raised his average from .263 to .286. With his 22 hits and 25 walks this month, Giavotella has an OBP of .456 (Giavotella has only had one Triple-A month in his career where he had an OBP of more than .450 and more than 10 games played: July of 2011 when he has a .451 OBP in 28 games).

CUTTING IT CLOSE: Nine of the last ten games for the Storm Chasers have been decided by two runs or less (5-4 in those games), as well as 16 of their 28 games in the month of June (8-8 in those 16 games).

WEAK DIVISION: Only two teams of the ten outside the American Conference Northern Division would not be leading the division (Fresno at 36-45, Reno at 31-50).
