Goldeyes Trounce Lincoln to Broom 'Dogs

WINNIPEG, Manitoba -- The Winnipeg Goldeyes defeated the Saltdogs 14-3 to complete the series sweep in front of 6,531 fans at Shaw Park Sunday afternoon.

For the second straight day, the game was never really in doubt as the hosts tallied four runs in the second inning and two more in the fourth and the fifth to take an 8-0 lead.

Lincoln battled back in the final stanza of the ballgame, as Jorge Cortes belted a solo home run in the seventh and Gavin Dickey and Maikel Jova added RBI singles to make the score 8-3.

Winnipeg answered with six runs in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by a Brian Joynt grand slam.

Chris Salamida (4-1) pitched seven innings, allowing a run on five hits while striking out five to earn the victory. John James (5-2) gave up eight runs on nine hits while striking out two and walking five to suffer the loss.

Dickey finished the day 2-for-4 with an RBI, and eight of the nine Saltdogs starters recorded hits.

Justin Bass hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth, his eighth of the year.

The Saltdogs return to Haymarket Park to open a four-game series with the Gary SouthShore RailCats Monday night at 7:05 p.m. Tim Brown is expected to take the hill for the 'Dogs. Radio coverage begins at 6:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
