Ace Walker loves pitching at Shaw Park and Monday night he was lights out.

Walker threw a 6.2 inning quality start, allowing only one run on seven scattered hits as he led the Goldeyes to their second straight victory, a 4-1 win over Steve Shirley's Sioux Falls Fighting Pheasants.

With the win, the Fish improved to 17-14 and remained in third place in the American Association's North Division. The loss dropped Sioux Falls to 11-19, last in the North.

"I felt good, really good tonight," said Walker after the game. "My change up was definitely on tonight. They had so many left-handed hitters and they all aggressive hitters so the change was the out pitch.

"I hate to bring the elements into it but the wind was blowing out and I wanted to make sure I gave them nothing to hit out over the plate. As long as I kept it down, I'd be OK."

The Goldeyes got all the runs they needed in the second inning when Brian Myrow led off with a double, Justin Bass was hit by a pitch and Louis Ott cleared the bases with a two-run double.

Sioux Falls scored in the top of third when Trevor Lawhorn singled and scored on a double by Joe Anthonsen. But that was it for Sioux Falls. Walker and relievers Kevin Light, Aaron Hartsock and Jamie Vemilyea shut the door on the Pheasants and the Goldeyes had their second straight victory.

The Goldeyes put the game away in the fifth when Victor Ferrante singled, Price Kendall singled and Kody Kaiser drove them both home with a double.

Walker (2-2, 3.35) got the win for the Goldeyes while Sioux Falls starter Brandon Rapoza (1-4, 5.60) suffered the loss. Vermilyea (1-1, 2.03 ERA) picked up his fifth save for the Fish

The Goldeyes and Pheasants will play Game 2 of this three-game series on Tuesday night at Shaw Park. Former Goldeyes righthander Ben Moore (4-1, 1.90 ERA) will get the start for Sioux Falls, while the Goldeyes starter has not been officially announced.

It's Max Poulin Night on Tuesday. Max's No. 6 will be retired, there will be a Max Poulin Bobblehead given away for the first 2,00 fans through the gates and there will be fireworks after the game. There are only a few hundred tickets remaining for the game.

That game, featuring Paul Edmonds on the AM microphone, can be heard live on Sports Radio 1290 and can be seen live with Scott Taylor, Ken Wiebe and Jim Toth on Shaw TV.
