Amarillo ThunderHeads News Release

AMARILLO, TX - The Amarillo Sox trailed 6-0 in the fifth inning to the El Paso Diablos, but thanks to five shutout innings from the bullpen and a walkoff hit by Lee Cruz, the Sox defeated the Diablos 7-6 in front of 1,746 fans at the Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium.

Sox reliever Chad Povich (2-1) got the win, allowing no runs in the ninth inning, which was the seventh straight appearance in which he has not given up a run. Diablos reliever Ray Silva (0-1) got the loss, allowing the ninth inning run.

The Diablos got on the board in the first inning as Stephen Douglas singled, went to third on an error and scored on an Antoin Gray groundout. El Paso added five runs off five hits in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead.

The Sox finally got on the board in the fifth inning as Jason White reached on a fielder's choice and scored on a Fehlandt Lentini RBI triple. Lentini scored on an Adam De La Garza sacrifice fly for a 6-2 Amarillo deficit.

Amarillo had a great chance to get back in the game in the sixth as they loaded the bases with only one out. Tim Alberts struck out in his opportunity while White flew out to end the inning and strand the bases loaded.

The Sox got back on the board in the seventh inning as Lentini led off with his second triple and scored on another De La Garza sacrifice fly. Lee Cruz came up later in the inning and hit a solo homerun over the left-center field wall for his ninth homerun to pull the deficit to 6-4 in favor of El Paso.

Alberts made up for his strikeout in the sixth as he hit a two-run homerun following a Chris Nash double to tie the game at 6-6. In the ninth, Silva walked De La Garza and Cyle Hankerd to lead off. Following a pass ball to move De La Garza to third, Cruz hit to the left-field gap to score the run and win the game for the Amarillo 7-6.

With the win, the Sox improve to 12-17 while the Diablos fall to 9-21.
