Lincoln 9, St. Paul 7
Lincoln 3B Brandon Jones registered just one hit Monday night. But that one knock was a big one, a three-run eighth-inning homer that put his Saltdogs club on top of St. Paul, 9-5. The Saints pushed two more runs across home plate in the bottom of the inning, but couldn't thwart the momentum of Lincoln's six-run inning. The Saints led 5-2 after two innings, and with no more scoring through the fifth, looked to be poised for a home win. That didn't come to be, however, as Jones and the Saltdogs scored seven runs in the final four innings to take a spirit-lifting 9-7 victory. Saints RF Brandon Tripp led his club offensively, batting in three runs ¬" two coming in the Saints' four-run second inning ¬" on a 3-5 night.
Fort Worth 6, Grand Prairie 1
Fort Worth starting pitcher Derek Blacksher didn't get off to the start he wanted, surrendering a solo home run to the first batter of the game, Grand Prairie 2B David Espinosa. But from that point on, Blacksher came up aces, allowing just three more hits and one walk over the next eight innings while striking out 10 AirHogs batters. The win was Blacksher's second of the season and brought his strikeout total to 33 in 40 innings pitched. The Cats answered Espinosa's first-inning homer with a two-run frame of their own, giving Blacksher the only run support he would need. But the Cats weren't done yet, as they put four more runs up, thanks in large part to C Kelley Gulledge, who batted in three runs on a 2-3 night that included his third home run and 11th double of the season.
Winnipeg 4, Sioux Falls 1
The Goldeyes pitching staff worked around nine Sioux Falls hits and gave up just one run, making way for a 4-1 win on the back of a 2-2 night from 3B Louis Ott, who gave the Goldeyes a 2-0 lead in the second inning with his sixth double of the season. The nine-pitch at-bat saw Ott foul off three two-strike pitches before doubling on a full count. Starting Winnipeg pitcher Andrew Walker pulled his season record to an even 2-2 after tossing 6.2 one-run innings and striking out three. Sioux Falls' only run of the game came in the third inning, when SS Joe Anthonsen doubled in Trevor Lawhorn from all the way from first. But that was the only scoring the Pheasants would do, as Walker and the Winnipeg bullpen gave the Goldeyes their 17th win of the season.
Fargo-Moorhead 8, Gary SouthShore 6
The RailCats spent most of Monday night playing catch up, trying to crawl back from a 7-1 deficit after the first inning. But despite a valiant late-inning effort from the Gary SouthShore batters and a solid performance from the bullpen, the RedHawks prevailed, 8-6. Fargo-Moorhead leadoff RF Michael Coles doubled twice in the first inning, batting in Jason James and Brian Ruggiano in his second plate appearance of the frame. Coles finished the night 3-4 with a run and two RBI. The RailCats bullpen got to work early, with reliever Carlos Rivas taking over in the second and threw four one-run innings. But the RailCats didn't get much offense during Rivas' appearance, and Gary SouthShore trailed by six heading into the seventh inning. That's when the RailCats batters starting putting hits on the board. But it was too late as the comeback attempt fell two runs shy.
Amarillo 7, El Paso 6
With the score tied at six with no outs in the bottom of the ninth inning, Amarillo LF Lee Cruz knocked a single to center field to score Adam De La Garza and give the Sox a come-from-behind, 7-6 victory. And what a comeback it was. Trailing 6-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth frame, the Sox needed an offensive spark. That's just what they got when CF Felhandt Lentini tripled in Jason White from first and scored one batter later ¬" and again when Lentini tripled to open the Sox two-run seventh inning, eventually scoring on a De La Garza sacrifice fly. Lentini finished the night 2-5 with two runs and an RBI while Cruz went 3-5, scoring once and batting in two. Diablos RF Stephen Douglas went 4-5 with two runs and an RBI. Amarillo reliever Chad Povich threw a one-hit ninth inning with a strikeout to pick up the win.
Sioux City 4, Kansas City 3
The Explorers took advantage of two Kansas City errors in the fourth inning, plating four runs that sufficed for a one-run win for Sioux City. The third and fourth runs of the frame came via the bat of C Ray Serrano's third home run of the season. Serrano went 1-3 on the night. Kansas City used four sixth-inning hits to put its second and third run across the plate. But the Explorers pitching staff took over from there, allowing just two more hits on the night ¬" zero in the final two innings. Sioux City starting pitcher Kyle Wright earned the win, giving himself a 3-2 record on the season in seven starts. Wright worked around 11 hits and three walks, allowing just three runs in 6.2 innings. Kansas City LF Aharon Eggleston went 3-4 and crossed home plate once for the T-Bones.
Wichita 13, Shreveport-Bossier 7
Sporting a narrow, 5-4 lead over the Captains in the seventh inning, Wichita pushed across eight runs in the bottom of the frame ¬" three coming from a 1-1 Jorge Delgado triple. With a hefty lead in hand, the Wingnuts cruised to a 13-7 victory. Delgado batted in four runs and scored once on a 2-4 night. Captains CF Robert Perry went 3-4 and scored on of Shreveport-Bossier's two first-inning runs. But the Catpains didn't enjoy their two-run lead for long, as a one-run Wingnuts first cut the lead in half and Wichita's three-run fourth put the home club on top for good. Wichita starter Ryan Hinson seven runs on 11 hits and two walks while striking out five, but managed still to earn his fourth win of the season.
