Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (18-12) escaped Monday night with an 8-6 win over the Gary SouthShore Railcats (16-15) at Newman Outdoor Field in Fargo, ND.
The Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks jumped out to an early 7-1 lead after scoring seven runs in the first inning. The RedHawks strung together six hits, two of them doubles by Micheal Coles, a walk, and a hit batter to fuel the rally.
Alex Caldera (3-0, 3.86) provided a solid foundation for the RedHawks to coast easily to victory, allowing only two runs in his six innings of work. Caldera struck out five batters and earned the win in his first start of the year for the RedHawks. Roman Martinez (0-1, 63.00) pitched only the first inning and received the loss.
The RedHawks bullpen struggled once again as they gave up a combined four runs (all earned) in three innings. Matt Mossey allowed a run in each of the seventh and eighth to put the score at 8-4. Nick Di Napoli started the ninth inning, but after getting the first out, he gave up four straight singles. Adam Tollefson entered the game at that point with an 8-5 score and the bases loaded. Tollefson walked the first batter but struck out the next two to earn the save.
On the other hand, the RailCats bullpen held the RedHawks to only one run and six hits in seven innings. Carlos Rivas, Will Krout, and Chris Chavez all pitched very well, but the RedHawks early runs proved enough to let them escape with the victory.
The RedHawks will play the second game of their three-game series against the Gary SouthShore RailCats Tuesday night. Myron Noodleman will provide additional entertainment at Newman Outdoor Field starting at 7:02 p.m. Tickets are still available and can be purchased by calling 701-235-6161, online at www.fmredhawks.com, or at the Ticket Office during business hours.
