Grand Prairie's Greg Smith Sold to New York Yankees

DURHAM, NC - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that the contract of Grand Prairie AirHogs LHP Greg Smith has been purchased by the New York Yankees. Smith will be assigned to Triple A Scranton Wilkes-Barre.

Smith was 3-1 with a 2.54 ERA in six starts. The 27-year-old struck out 31 batters and walked only seven in 39 innings pitched. Smith was named Pitcher of the Week after his five-hit, complete-game, no-walk, nine-strikeout shutout against Lincoln on May 17.

The Alexandria, LA resident was a sixth round pick of the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2005. Smith spent parts of 2008 (Oakland) and 2010 (Colorado) in the Major Leagues.
