WINNIPEG, Manitoba --The Sioux Falls Pheasants' first trip to Canada since 2005 was spoiled on Monday night by a 4-1 loss to the Winnipeg Goldeyes.

The Goldeyes used a pair of doubles to drive in all four runs while starter Ace Walker (2-2) held the Pheasants' bats quiet. Walker scattered seven hits over 6 2/3 innings, walking just two and striking out three.

Winnipeg's Louis Ott doubled home Brian Myrow and Justin Bass in the second inning for a 2-0 lead. The Pheasants responded with Joe Anthonsen's double in the top of the third to shave the lead to 2-1. Trevor Lawhorn scored with a crafty slide that avoided the tag of catcher Alan Rick.

Winnipeg added two more with three straight hits in the fifth inning, capped off by Kody Kaiser's two-run double for a 4-1 lead.

The Pheasants could not capitalize on the numerous opportunities they had throughout the night.. They collected hits in all but the first and ninth innings but stranded eight men. Brandon Sing went 4-for-4 with a double. He has banged out nine hits in his last three games. Anthonsen went 3-for-4.

Brandon Rapoza (1-4) suffered the loss in his sixth start for the Pheasants. He gave up six hits and four runs while walking two and striking out four.

Jamie Vermilyea pitched a perfect ninth to earn his fifth save.

The Pheasants lost their fifth in a row and dropped to an 11-19 record for the year.

The Pheasants look to rebound for game two of the three-game series at 7:05 p.m. on Tuesday, June 14 in Winnipeg. The game will be broadcast live on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM KWSN and online at www.kwsn.com.
