Goaltending Clinic Goes to Greenville, 1-0

WHEELING, WV- Elite goaltending was on display at WesBanco Arena on Friday night, as the Wheeling Nailers and Greenville Road Warriors scratched and clawed to try to dent the twine. Only one goal was scored on 57 shots, as Vinny Saponari secured a 1-0 win for Greenville at the 4:10 mark of the first period.
The lone goal of the opening period occurred at the 4:10 mark, and it gave the Road Warriors the lead. Vinny Saponari and Emerson Clark exchanged passes on a give-and-go play on the left side of the offensive zone. The passing resulted in the puck on Saponari's stick, and he proceeded to wrist a shot into the left side of the cage. Greenville outshot Wheeling 14-8 in the frame.
The goaltending duel continued into the second period, as the Road Warriors recorded 14 more shots on goal to Wheeling's six. However, the score remained the same, taking the contest into the third period. The Nailers threw seven more pucks on the frame in the third period, but were unable to convert, giving the game a 1-0 final score.
Jason Missiaen earned his second straight shutout for Greenville, stopping all 21 shots he faced. Franky Palazzese played one of his best games of the season, denying 35 of the 36 shots he faced. Unfortunately, the decision didn't go his way.
The Nailers and Road Warriors will do battle again on Saturday night at 7:35.
The December 20th is a season ticket redemption night, team picture giveaway (holiday edition), and there will be an Ugly Christmas Sweater Contest. Both games are slated for 7:35 starts against the Greenville Road Warriors. There will also be three home games on January 9th, 10th, and 11th, highlighted by Girl Scout Night and Princess Party on Saturday the 10th.
