Independence, MO - The Missouri Mavericks (12-11-0-0) started a three-game home stand with a resounding 6-2 triumph over the Brampton Beast (7-13-1-0) on Friday night in front of a full house at Independence Events Center during STAR WARS NIGHT. Missouri has two games remaining on their home stand on Saturday and Monday, leading up to back-to-back games in Rapid City.

With the win, Missouri has now won six of their last eight games overall and for the Beast, the loss marked their sixth straight defeat. The Beast are 0-5 on their current nine-game road trip and have been outscored 25-6 during their journey that began on December 9 with a 5-2 loss in Missouri.

The Mavs got big offensive nights from Andrew Courtney (2 goals, 1 assist), Sebastien Thinel (2 assists) and Josh Brittain (2 assists). As a team, 13 skaters made it on to the scoresheet showcasing the balanced attack.

Rookie goaltender Maxime Lagace improves to 4-2 on the season after stopping 18 of 20 shots he faced. The goalie has allowed just five total goals in his four wins including a shutout in his last outing, a 2-0 win in Rapid City on Tuesday.

Missouri's lowest offensive output has come in the first period this season (15 goals) but on Friday, things were different with the Mavs scoring three times in the opening 20 minutes. Courtney started the scoring at the 7:08 mark followed by a power play goal from Martin Lee (his team-leading fourth PPG of the season). Courtney then notched his second goal of the night late in the first period tying him for the team-high with eight goals on the season. Courtney has scored five goals in his last six outings.

The second period was more of the same with the home team pounding out 17 shots on goal and three more scores. Jack Downing's fourth goal of the season was followed by strikes from Chris Crane, his eight of the season, and John-Scott Dickson (came on the power play).

Brampton got on the board in the second period with a goal from Brayden Rose scored just after Downing notched his tally and a goal near the end of the frame by Jason Pitton.

The Mavs power play finally had some success scoring for the first time in the month of December and finishing 2 for 5 in the game. Missouri was 0 for their last 19 entering the game. Conversely, the Mavs penalty kill was tested little facing just one shorthanded situation (committed just one infraction in the game).

The Mavericks tied a season-high with 39 shots on goal (outshot Brampton 39-20 in the game) and over their last four games have had 30-plus shots in each contest (143 total shots, 35.8 per game).

Grant Rollheiser played just the first period but allowed three goals on nine shots taking the loss in the game. Trevor Cann came on in relief and stopped 27 of 30 shots in the two periods he played.

On the season, the Mavericks are now 2-0 against Brampton outscoring them 11-4. The Beast scored two times in the first six minutes of their first meeting on December 9 but have since been outgunned 11-2 by the Mavs offense.

Missouri continues their home stand on Saturday night when they host the Rapid City Rush. Face-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM (CST) at the Independence Events Center.
