Tulsa Oilers News Release

TULSA, OK - The Tulsa Oilers fired 41 shots on goal on Wednesday night but came up empty in a 4-0 loss to the Rapid City Rush in front of 4,455 at the BOK Center. The Oilers were blanked for the second time this season thanks to a tag-team shutout effort by Rush goalies Etienne Marcoux and Danny Battochio. Tulsa has dropped three straight games for the first time all season and has managed to score only two goals in its last three outings.

A power play wrist shot by Justin Schultz put Rapid City on the board at 12:41 of the first period and Schultz notched his second point of the evening with an assist on Robin Soudek's tally at 15:38 of the opening frame. Schultz created a turnover near the boards in the Tulsa zone and promptly found Soudek for a one-timer from the circle that squeezed past Oilers goalie Kevin Carr. Despite out-shooting the Rush 19-9 over the first 20 minutes, the Oilers trailed 2-0 at the first intermission.

The visitor's lead swelled to 3-0 just 1:38 into the second period when Winston Day Chief fired the puck past Carr from the high slot for his third goal of the season. Just over eight minutes into the middle frame, Marcoux skated off the ice with an apparent injury and was replaced by Battochio. Marcoux departed the contest after turning aside 25 Tulsa shots.

Battochio had no trouble preserving the Rapid City lead as he stopped 12 shots in the third period and concluded his relief performance with a total of 16 saves. Jeremy Gates put the finishing touches on the Rush win with his first goal of the season at 18:34 of the third period. Tulsa went 0-for-5 on the power play and fell to 1-1-0 against Rapid City this season.

The Oilers have been outscored 10-2 in their last three home games and concluded a season-long five-game home stand with a 2-3-0 record.

Saturday night, the Oilers make their fourth trip of the season to Allen, Texas for a 7:05 p.m. tilt against the Americans.
