ROYALS PRE-GAME NOTES
- This evening, the Royals take on the Evansville Icemen in the first of what will be four regular season matchups between the two teams. All four of the games in the series will be played at Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana, including tomorrow's contest (Saturday, December 20 @ 8:15 pm Eastern Time).
- Tonight's game is the third in what is a five game road trip for the Royals, which kicked off with a 3-2 loss to the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena in Wheeling, West Virginia on Sunday. Wednesday, the
Royals bounced back to knock off the Indy Fuel in come-from-behind fashion (6-4) in the team's first trip ever to Indiana Farmers Coliseum at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in Indianapolis, Indiana.
- After this Saturday's game against the Icemen at Ford Center, the Royals will have a five day holiday break before returning to action against the Elmira Jackals at First Arena in Elmira, New York on Friday, December 26 (@ 7:05 pm).
- Reading will return to home on Saturday, December 27, 2014 (@ 7:05 pm), when the team will face the Jackals in the second of what will be three consecutive games between the two teams. That night the Royals will honor the team's new affiliation relationship with the Philadelphia Flyers with a special appearance from Flyer legend, Bob 'The Hound' Kelly. The Royals will also give away the Jack Gulati bobblehead (first 1500 fifteen years of age and older) as we celebrate 'Are You Happy?' Night.
- Wednesday night's victory in Indianapolis marked the sixth come-from-behind win of the season for Reading. It was actually the second time this season that Reading racked up four straight goals to rally for a win over the Indy Fuel. On November 22 in Reading, the Royals trailed the Fuel 3-0 entering the third period before running off four straight to win 4-3 in regulation.
- The win over the Fuel on Wednesday pushed the Royals' record to four games over .500 for the third time this season. That is the high-water mark so far this season for Reading with respect to games above .500.
- Cam Reid started the scoring for Reading on Wednesday with his eighth goal of the year 17:56 into the first period to tie that game at one. That goal snapped a nine game goal scoring drought for Reid.
- Olivier Labelle cut the Indy lead to 3-2 18:33 into the second period. That goal was his seventh of the season and his seventy-eighth as a Royal-more than any other player in team history. Labelle has 146 points (78g-68a) (third in all-time career scoring) in 180 games with Reading.
- Ryan Cruthers recorded his first multi-goal game of the year (2g-0a) on Wednesday. Cruthers' second goal against Indy proved to be his second consecutive game winner for the Royals. Cruthers has fourteen career regular season (and two playoff) GWGs in his time with Reading. Cruthers, who is the all-time career scoring leader for the organization, has 243 points (77g-166a) in 235 games with Reading.
- David Marshall recorded his seventh multi-point game of the season on Wednesday (0g-2a), which is ties him with Adam Hughesman for the team lead in that category.
- Pat Mullane recorded his second consecutive multi-point performance on Wednesday (0g-2a). Mullane, who now has five multi-point games this season (three of which have come in the last four games), has fifteen points (4g-11a) in his last thirteen games.
- Mike Marcou registered his first multi-point performance as a Royal against the Fuel (0g-2a). Marcou is tied for thirteenth in scoring amongst defensemen in the league with fifteen points (3g-12a) in twenty- three games with the Royals.
- Goaltender Martin Ouellette stretched his personal win streak to a team season-high four straight with the 28-save victory Wednesday. Ouellette has compiled a record of 7-1-1-1 in his last ten games.
- The Royals power was held off the board on Wednesday by the Fuel (0-3) (which included a five minute major power play-two minutes of which was squandered with a penalty within the power play).
Reading's PP has been blanked in six of the last seven games-and in seven of the last nine-going 3 for 33 in that time span (9.1%).
- On Wednesday, the Royals penalty killers knocked off all four power play chances for the Indy Fuel- including three back-to-back-to-back chances with the man advantage with the score tied at three mid- way into the third period. That marked the fourteenth time this season that the Royals' PK has held the opposition's PP off the board. Reading is 9-3-1-1 in those games.
