Missiaen Earns Second Straight Shutout in 1-0 Victory
December 19, 2014 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Wheeling, WV- For the second consecutive game, Jason Missiaen stopped every shot he faced as the Greenville Road Warriors (17-9-1), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, earned a 1-0 shutout of the Wheeling Nailers (12-11-0) at WesBanco Arena on Friday. Missiaen (6-4-1) made 21 saves in the contest for his third straight victory overall, while Vinny Saponari scored the game's only goal in the opening frame.
With the win, Greenville extended its point streak to a season-high eight games, which is the club's longest streak since it produced points in eight straight from Jan. 5, 2013 - Jan. 26, 2013.
Missiaen is now 4-0-1 in his last five starts with a 0.78 goals against average, .975 save percentage and two shutouts. In addition, the 24-year old goaltender has stopped 61 consecutive shots in back-to-back shutouts against the Nailers during the regular season, dating back to Jan. 18, 2014.
The Road Warriors came out firing with six shots in the first five minutes including the game's only goal at 4:10 of the opening frame. From the left circle, Emerson Clark collected a Wheeling turnover and found Saponari, who walked to the slot and fired a wrister past goaltender Franky Palazzese for his eighth goal of the season. Saponari now has points in five of his last six contests (2g, 8a).
For the next 55:50, both teams traded chances, but the goaltenders stood firm. In the final two minutes of regulation, the Nailers lifted Palazzese for the extra attacker, but could not capitalize.
Greenville finished the game 0-for-3 on the power play and 2-for-2 on the penalty kill. Palazzese (7-7-0) made 35 saves and suffered the loss.
The Road Warriors outshot Wheeling 36-21. Greenville has not allowed more than one goal in regulation in four straight games.
