Atlanta Gladiators News Release

The Gwinnett Gladiators acquired the ECHL rights to defenseman Marcel Alvarez from the Cincinnati Cyclones on Wednesday in exchange for the rights to defenseman Sean Duddy.

Alvarez, a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, played in 15 games with the Trenton Titans this season. The Cleveland, Ohio native had a goal and two assists during his stint with Trenton, which ended in January with Alvarez leaving the team to attend Army Ranger School in Fort Benning, Ga.

Last season the 25-year-old wrapped up a four-year career with the Black Knights at West Point, scoring three goals and adding 11 assists in 34 games as Team Captain. He played in 141 total games in those four years at Army, picking up 14 goals and 59 assists. After completing his senior season Alvarez played in three games with the Titans to close the 2011-12 campaign.

Duddy, 23, skated in 18 games over the past two seasons with the Gladiators. He tallied four assists in 11 games this season prior to leaving the team in mid-November to return home to Ohio for personal reasons.
