Trenton Titans Week in Review - Week Ending February 10

February 13, 2013 - ECHL (ECHL)
Trenton Titans News Release

The Titans played another week of exciting hockey, with all three games at home being decided by a goal - two of them going into overtime. The end result saw Trenton with an even week, going 1-1-1 and getting three much needed points during its home stand.

Wednesday February 6: GWINNETT - 3, Trenton - 2

In the second and final meeting between the two teams, they were involved in another back-and-forth affair. Jacob Cepis nabbed his 13th of the year (seventh on the PP) to have the Titans within 2-1 after two. A late Gladiator goal was countered seven seconds later at 12:44 by Mike Ullrich's seventh of the year off a Bryan Haczyk faceoff win. Unfortunately the Titans couldn't get to even after that and fell 3-2.

Despite the loss, Scott Wedgewood was outstanding again between the pipes, stopping 30.

Friday February 8: Reading - 2, TRENTON - 3 (OT)

For the third time in four meetings, the Royals and Titans went to overtime. Fortunately for the hometown heroes, the OT would end in the same dramatic fashion.

Cal Heeter (TRE) and Drew MacIntyre (REA) were locked between the pipes in a scoreless duel (Heeter 26 saves, MacIntyre 21). Finally, Ullrich started the scoring off with his ninth goal of the year - and ninth straight game with a point (a team high) - eight minutes into the third.

After Reading tied it a minute later, Haczyk ripped a PPG to help regain the lead at 2-1, with 6:37 to play. However T. J. Syner tied it back up three minutes later and eventually sending the game to overtime.

After getting their first four OT wins inside the first or last 30 seconds of OT, the Titans got the game-winner at 1:40 of the extra session as Chad Langlis stole a pass in the Reading defensive zone, then fed Ullrich in front who deked MacIntyre right and beat him inside the left post.

Heeter grabbed his first ECHL victory with a 39-save gem.

Saturday February 9: KALAMAZOO - 2, Trenton - 1 (OT)

For the second straight night the Titans ended up in OT, this time with North Division foe Kalamazoo. And again brilliant goaltending carried the night.

Joel Martin (W, 45 saves) started his 32nd-consective game and Wedgewood (L, 25 saves) was brilliant again as the teams went scoreless through one.

Kalamazoo struck first 31 seconds into second for the game's first goal. It would take 14 more minutes, but Trenton finally knotted the game 1-1 on Cepis' 14th.

Despite some dramatic moments for both sides, the game would enter OT with no more scoring. Andy Bohmbach had the best chance to end it, but was pulled down on a breakaway attempt 54 seconds in. The ensuing penalty shot was denied by Martin.

The game appeared headed to a shootout, until a Titans penalty allowed a power play chance that Sam Ftorek capitalized on with 1:01 left to play.
