Gladiators Weekly Update

March 29, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Atlanta Gladiators News Release

Best Season Yet: The Gladiators 85 points this year sets a new team record for most points in a season breaking the previous team high of 82 points set twice, once during the 1999-00 season and during the 2000-01 season. The Gladiators need just one win to break the team record of 40 for most wins in a season, records all set while the team was the Mobile Mysticks.

No Goals Allowed: Goaltenders Michael Garnett and Trevor Prior combined to record three shutouts this week, blanking Alaska on Tuesday, Texas on Friday and Louisiana on Sunday. The Gladiators have recorded a shutout in four of their past five games while outscoring their opponents 26-3 during that span.

Give me 4 more: Kevin Doell tallied half of the goals for the Gladiators in Friday's 8-0 win over the Texas Wildcatters. His four goals ties a team high for goals in a game, a record he previously tied this season with four tallies on February 20th in Roanoke against the Express. Jason Elders, while with the Mobile Mysticks, accomplished the feat three times and Russ Guzior, also with Mobile, put up four goals for the organization once.

Magic Number at 3: The Gladiators magic number to clinch a Kelly Cup playoff berth sits at 3 points. The Gladiators can clinch a playoff berth with any combination of 3 points earned by the Gladiators or lost by Columbus. Gwinnett has four games remaining this season with a possible 8 points left while Columbus also has four games and 8 points remaining this season.

Goals aplenty: The Gladiators set a new season high for goals in a game with 8 on Friday against the Texas Wildcatters. The Gladiators previous season high for goals in a game was 7 set against the Augusta Lynx on December 30th and against the Roanoke Express on February 20th. The Gladiators 8-goal winning margin was also the largest win in Gladiators team history to date.

On the Power Play: The Gladiators set a new team high for power play goal in a game with 5 against the Texas Wildcatters in Friday's 8-0 win. The Gladiators previous high of four man-advantage goals was set at Roanoke on February 20th.

One more to tie: Goaltender Trevor Prior has recorded two consecutive shutouts for the Gladiators in his past two outings. He blanked Columbia 5-0 on Sunday, March 21st and kept Alaska off the board on Tuesday, March 23rd in a 5-0 win. If Prior records a shut out in his next start, the netminder will tie the ECHL mark for most consecutive starts with a shutout at three tying Andrew Allen with Trenton last season and Darryl Paquette of Hampton Roads during the 1996-97 season.

Team Poster Night: Be one of the first 2,000 fans to Friday's 8:05 p.m. start against the Columbus Cottonmouths and get a Gladiators offensive team poster.

Noise Maker Nights: Friday, April 1st and Saturday, April 2nd is the First Annual Mac-n-Cheese Weekend sponsored by Kroger. Bring a box of macaroni and cheese to the game and shake it as a noisemaker as you cheer the Gladiators on to victory. After the game, donate your box as you exit the building to the Salvation Army and all of the Gwinnett area Food Banks.
