Idaho Steelheads News Release


BOISE, Idaho - The Idaho Steelheads wrapped up its final homestand of the regular season last week with one win and three losses. The team will close out the 2003-04 season on the road this week with four games upcoming. Currently, Idaho holds third spot in the ECHL's Pacific Division and unless the standings change, the team will open the first round of the Kelly Cup Playoffs on the road (possible dates below).

IDAHO STEELHEADS RECORD:
38-22-8, 84 points. At home: 23-10-3. On the road: 15-12-5. Last ten: 5-4-1. Streak: 0-2-0.

Steelheads Team and Fan Awards will be presented during Friday and Saturday nights' games, immediately following the first period. The Cal Ingraham Leading Scorer Award will be presented at the first Kelly Cup Playoff home game.

TRICKY: Five Steelheads have recorded three-goal games, for a total of seven, this season¾ Andrei Vasilyev contributed three goals (his third was the game winner) in a 6-4 comeback over the Fresno Falcons at the Bank of America Centre on 03/24/04. Lance Galbraith has racked up two; his latest came at home against Long Beach when he contributed to rally from a three-goal deficit to tie the game on 03/13/04, with the Steelheads eventually winning in OT...Galbraith's first hat trick came on 01/03/04 @ Fresno in the first Steelheads game at the new Save Mart Center. Idaho's captain, defenseman Jeremy Mylymok recorded a hat trick on 01/17/04 in Fresno leading the Steelheads to a 7-2 victory. Scott Burt scored a hat trick in Idaho's 7-5 win in Toledo on 02/21/04. Miguel Delisle (traded to Long Beach 2/11/04) is the second player to record multiple hat tricks this season with two (12/17/03 vs BAK and 12/19/03 vs BAK).

GAME RECAPS:
03/23/04: Fresno 2 @ Idaho 1
BOISE, Idaho (Ticker) -- Terry Denike had 33 saves as the Fresno Falcons edged the Idaho Steelheads, 2-1. Denike turned aside all 23 shots he faced after the first period for the win. Mike Sandbeck tied the score at 1-1 with 8:49 remaining in the second period and Kris Porter collected a power-play goal 2:30 later for Fresno, which beat Idaho in regulation for the first time in eight meetings this season (2-6-0). Adam Copeland opened the scoring with a man-advantage goal 5:01 into the first period for the Steelheads, who had a three-game home win streak snapped. Blair Allison turned aside 27 shots in defeat.

03/24/04: Fresno 4 @ Idaho 6
BOISE, Idaho (Ticker) -- Andrei Vasilyev registered a hat trick and an assist to help the Idaho Steelheads beat the Fresno Falcons, 6-4. Vasilyev opened the scoring 23 seconds into the contest, helped out on a power-play goal by Lance Galbraith 3:41 into the third and tied the score at four goals apiece 6:42 later. Vasilyev then netted the go-ahead goal, his fourth man-advantage marker of the season, with 4:35 remaining. Galbraith chipped in with two assists and Jan Kopecky contributed with three helpers for Idaho, which has won four of its last five home games. Blair Allison posted 27 saves to improve to 12-3-3 in 19 home games. Kris Porter scored twice within a span of 3:51 to give Fresno a 3-1 lead after the first period. Terry Denike gave up all six goals on 36 shots for the loss.

03/26/04: San Diego 4 @ Idaho 2
BOISE, Idaho (Ticker) -- Clayton Read scored twice and Evgueni Nourislamov supplied three assists as the San Diego Gulls defeated the Idaho Steelheads, 4-2. Read gave San Diego a 2-0 lead 1:56 into the second period and broke a 2-2 tie 3:44 into the third. Nourislamov picked up an assist on both of Read's tallies and had a hand in a goal by Brian Gornick, who opened the scoring on the power play with 8:14 left in the first period. Trevor Koenig made 36 saves for the Gulls, who improved to 7-1-1 against Idaho this season. Jeff Bateman and Lance Galbraith scored in a 1:25 span of the second period for the Steelheads, who fell to 1-3-1 over their last five games. Blair Allison made 18 saves in the loss.

03/27/04: San Diego 3 @ Idaho 1
BOISE, Idaho (Ticker) -- Trevor Koenig had 27 saves as the San Diego Gulls clinched a playoff berth with a 3-1 victory over the Idaho Steelheads. Koenig, who has gone 12-1-5 in his last 18 games, made 12 stops in the middle period to collect his 34th win - one shy of league-leader Brian Eklund's total of 35. Sammy Nasreddine knotted the score at 1-1 midway through the opening period for San Diego. David Neale netted the deciding goal with 6:15 left in the first period for the Gulls, who, with 45 victories, have moved to within one win of tying the ECHL record of 46 wins by a first-year team. Sylvain Deschatelets notched a goal and an assist to extend his points streak to 22 games (13 goals, 22 assists) for San Diego. Derek Paget scored the lone goal for Idaho, which fell to 2-7-1 against San Diego. Scott Kabotoff had 18 saves in the loss.

COMMUNITY SCHEDULE:
Saturday, April 3rd, 9:00 - 10:30 a.m. The Idaho Steelheads mascot BONK! will kick off this year's American Heart Association Walk on April 3rd at Julia Davis Park. The Steelheads are rewarding all walkers/runners who raise $1,000 or more two Idaho Steelhead tickets. The walker/runner who raises the most money overall will receive 12 tickets to a private suite for themselves and 11 of their friends.
