Lynx Take Two Out Of Three On Weekend
March 29, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Augusta Lynx News Release
The Augusta Lynx continued their winning ways this weekend, taking two out of three games on the road with wins in Greenville Friday and Florence Saturday.
3/26 Augusta 5 @ Greenville 3
Greenville's Mark Concannon gave his team the only lead of the game early on, but Augusta came back for three goals from Jarrett Thompson, Terry Marchant, and Sean O'Connor to forge a 3-1 lead. Mike Nelson and Concannon's second goal of the game tied things at 3-3, but last in the third period Augusta used a 5-on-3 power play advantage to score twice for a 5-3 final. Martin Lapointe notched the game winner and Thompson added his second of the game as an insurance marker. Jason Saal made 16 saves for the win.
3/27 Augusta 4 - Florence 3 (SO)
A wild first period of scoring saw Florence open up a 3-2 lead on goals from Jeff Szwez, Vladimir Gusev, and Allan Sirois, while Augusta replied with markers from Greg Jacina and Darren Shakotko. Jacina would score his second of the game in the second period to tie the game at 3-3 and send it to overtime. Past the five minute OT and into the shootout, the Lynx finally broke the tie with Martin Lapointe's shootout winner in round six for their first win in Florence since the 2001-02 Season. Jason Saal once again earned the win with 23 saves.
3/28 Augusta 4 @ Roanoke 7
Augusta opened the scoring just 54 seconds into the contest when Sean O'Connor potted his first of two goals on the night. Greg Jacina made it 2-1 Lynx later in the period, but Augusta would relinquish the lead and never get it back after that point. O'Connor's second goal of the game combined with Jonathan Gagnon's marker finished the scoring for the Lynx. Will Hamele took the loss, making 18 saves over the first two periods, while Jason Saal came in to finish the game, allowing one goal on five shots over the third period.
