Cyclones Finish Season in Dayton on Saturday

The Cyclones play their final game of 2003-04 on Saturday in Dayton. The Cyclones went 0-2-1 this week losing by identical 4-3 scores to Peoria, Reading and Johnstown. The Johnstown defeat came in overtime after the Clones had overcome 2-0 and 3-2 Johnstown leads.

Wednesday, March 24 Cincinnati 3 at Peoria 4

The Cyclones fell behind 4-0 on a pair of first period markers by Tyler Rennette and solo goals from Adam Edinger and Igor Valeev. Cincinnati would stage a comeback thanks to markers by Bob Rangus and Jason Maleyko in the second period. Rangus' fourth and Maleyko's third goal of the season cut the Peoria lead in half at 4-2. Mike Henderson scored as time expired in the third period to set the final score at 4-3.

Friday, March 26 Reading 4 at Cincinnati 3

The Cyclones once again found themselves in an early hole as Chris Lynch scored 52 seconds into the first period. Kent Davyduke extended the Royals lead to 2-0 at 15:48 of the second period. Mike Henderson scored his first goal of the night to cut the Reading leading in half just twelve seconds after Davyduke's goal. David Masse would reclaim a two-goal lead for Reading when he scored just 39 seconds after Henderson's goal. The third period began with the Clones trailing 3-1. Jason Maleyko scored for the second time in two games to cut the Reading lead to one. Just 59 seconds after Maleyko's goal, Reading captain Dave Stewart scored to put Reading in front 4-2. Mike Henderson scored his second goal of the night and third in two games with 2:54 left in the game. The Cyclones never got the equalizer and fell 4-3 to Reading.

Sunday, March 28 Cincinnati 3 at Johnstown 4 Overtime

For the third consecutive game, the Cyclones dropped a 4-3 decision. The Cyclones showed great heart in the overtime loss as they came back from deficits of 2-0 and 3-2. After a scoreless first period, Brent Kelly and Shawn Mather scored for the Chiefs early in the second to stake J-Town to a 2-0 lead. The Cyclones battled back to tie the game before the first period ended. Evan Cheverie scored his seventh of the year followed by rookie Erik Eaton's second of the season. The third began with the game knotted at three goals apiece. J-Town captain Brent Bilodeau scored a power-play goal after Bob Rangus was whistled for holding in the neutral zone. Evan Cheverie recorded his second marker of the game with just 2:57 left in the game to force overtime. In the extra frame, Johnnstown's Larry Courville scored to secure the win for the Chiefs.

Saturday, April 3-Dayton at Cincinnati

The Cyclones finish off their 2003-04 schedule with a game vs. their closest geographic rivals, the Dayton Bombers, on Saturday. The Cyclones are 4-5-1 this year vs. the Bombers including a 5-2 loss the last time the teams met on March 17th in Dayton.

Cyclones to Watch

-The line of Phil Lewandowski, Evan Cheverie and Mike Henderson continues to dominate the Cyclones scoring chart. Cheverie has tied a Cyclones season high with points in each of the last six games. Cheverie has three goals and five assists for eight points in his last half dozen games. Henderson has a point in each of his last four games and in six of his last seven contests. Over the last seven games, Henderson has nine points on five goals and four assists. Lewandowski is on a five game point scoring streak. Over that stretch, Lewandowski has three goals and five assists for eight points.

-Tyler Masters was called up to the Chicago Wolves of the American League on Friday. In Masters place, the Cyclones signed emergency back-up Zach Nippert. Nippert was playing on the Miami University club team when signed by the Clones.
