Gladiators Snap Stingrays' Streak with 6-2 Win

Duluth, GA -The Gwinnet Gladiators (21-22-2-5) snapped the South Carolina Stingrays' (28-20-1-1) three-game winning streak with a 6-2 victory in front of 7,039 at The Arena at Gwinnet Saturday night.

The Gladiators grabbed the only goal of the first period when forward Michael Forney fired a shot under the blocker of Stingrays goaltender Shane Owen on the power play at 8:09. Forwards Tim Miller and Pat Galivan received assists.

After killing off a Stingrays power play to begin the second period, the Gladiators erupted for four goals to take a 5-0 lead into the second intermission. Defenseman Cody Brookwell buried his first of the season at 6:03 from forward Akim Aliu and Miller. Aliu gave the Gladiators a three-goal lead on the power play at 14:41 from Galivan and Forney. Moments later, Aliu struck again on the man-advantage with Miller and Galivan picking up assists. After the tally, Owen was pulled in favor of netminder Andrew Loewen. Owen ended the night stopping 23 of 27 Gladiators shots in 36:03 of work.

Seconds after the switch, Forney batted in a loose puck under the glove of Loewen at 16:21. Forward Dustin Cameron registered the lone assist.

Forward Tommy Goebel put the Stingrays on the board 1:17 into the final frame beating Gladiators keeper Edward Pasquale over the right pad from the bottom of the left-wing circle. Forwards Luke Popko and Rob Ricci acquired assists. Rays forward Trent Campbell made it 5-2 at 2:39 from forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien and Josh Godfrey. Gladiators defenseman Paul Flache halted the Stingrays' momentum with his sixth of the campaign at 12:06 from defenseman Wil Colbert and forward Danick Paquette.

Loewen finished the contest stopping 10 of 12 Gladiators chances in 23:57 of play. Pasquale improved to 1-1-0-0 against the Stingrays blocking 24 of 26 opportunities. The Gladiators went 3-for-5 on the power play while the Stingrays ended the night 0-for-3.

The Stingrays and Gladiators wrap up the weekend series in their final regular-season meeting at The Arena at Gwinnett Center tomorrow, Sunday, February 13 at 4:05 p.m. Tune in to the action LIVE on ESPN Radio 910 and www.stingrayshockey.com.
